My YOAKUMS were from W. Va. They went to Texas in the 1840s. Adam YOAKUM married Martha VEAL. Adam was born in 1814 and died in Fannin Co. Texas in 1889. His second wife was Elizabeth Witcher. His sons were George, James Columbus, and Jacob. James Columbus was my grgr grandfather. He was married to Ann BRIGHT. Their daughter Amanda Elizabeth YOAKUM married Wilson Arthur BARKER. Does anyone know any more information on the YOAKUMS.

I need a few more clues to go on. What was your grandfather's name? The only Pleasant's I have in my database are given names, not surnames. I have a Pleasant Duke and a Pleasant Daniel.

Re: YOAKUMS OF W VA., TEXAS
Karen,
Just wanted to add a bit of information. Adam Stump Yoakum married Martha Veal Ventioner. Martha had a couple of brothers: Ike and Joe Ventioner that later became deputies in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Always good to meet another cousin.....
Best regards,

Re: YOAKUMS OF W VA., TEXAS
Joe Ventioner was my great great grandfather. Leo Ventioner was my father's grandfather. Leo was a professional gambler. You never seem to hear about our family name and thought it was great to find this site.
