As a ten year old, I remember taking a trip to Port Isabel, Texas with my mother to visit "Cousin" Carl YOAKLEY, who was a barber there. I'd like to figure out how Cousin Carl and I were related. Surnames on my mother's side are COSTEN, MILLS, McCRACKEN, McCLURE, THROOP. Surnames on my father's side are SEEGER, KILDOW, DARST, MATHERLY. Can anyone "hook me up" with the YOAKLEYS? The trip to Port Isabel was in the late 1930's or early 1940's, and, if memory serves me, Cousin Carl seemed quite old. Thanks for any help with this query.

Hi Carl, I myself am proud to be a Yoakley. I too am searching for unknown and possibly distant relatives. I am 19 and am stationed in Colorado, so therefore I can not be of much help. However, please e-mail me and I will hook you up with my Dad and Grandfather who know a lot more than I do. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi lawrence saw your two year old query today. you still at it? my husband had an ancestor-uncle named Carl yoakley. his mother's name was georgia MILLS of alabama. his father's name was joseph richard yoakley (of maybe st. louis missouri) who went as "J.R.". Our "carl" would have been born in the 1880's or 1890's. is that old enough for you? i dont know when he died. he was married to an "Emma", don't know the last name my husand's part of the family re-located to the Denton TEXAS area. dont know if carl went too. we have two "hits" there, on your query: "mills and texas", maybe there is a connection? tell me about your mills.is there a "B.S." or Benagy Mills in the gang? Does the name Dorcas Fox ring a bell? (my Carl's mother's mother) hope you are further along than i am by now. yoakley is a hard name to get anything on! but they were proud of that name that they named my husband's father joe YOAKLEY moore. my carlos had a brother wallace or "wallos", as it is spelled in family papers, and one named Berlos and a sister named wilma. all such unusual names....did any pass down into your family??? that would be a clue. hope i helped

Eureka!! I think we've got a connection! 1880's or 1890's would fit "cousin Carl's " age. Also Benajy or Benagee Mills and Dorcas or Darcus Fox were my 2nd great grand parents on my mother's side of the family. Also, "Carlos" rings a faint bell of some sort. I'm REALLY excited about making this connection! I hope you will do both of us the kindness of contacting me about this. As I said in my query, Cousin Carl has been on my mind for a long time. Now maybe we will finally "meet" again. My email and snailmail addresses are as follows: Lawrence Seeger < longhorn@bbnp.com> PO Box 1682 Wilson, NC 2789 Phone: 252 237 8461

W Carlos Yoakley, J.R. Yoakley, Georgia Mills Yoakley, Texas
There is a wonderful news article about the reuniting of Georgia Mills Yoakley and her sister Mrs. D.M. Knight in Denton, Texas near the Yoakley Store. The article can be found in the DENTON RECORD CHRONICLE, Denton Texas, Friday, November 13, 1931, page 9. The title of the article is "Woman Visits Sister for the First Time in 48 Years: Had not been in Denton County Since Visit Here During 1869." Georgia Mills Yoakley was the wife of Joseph R. Yoakley and the mother of W. Carlos, C. Burlos, Wallos, and Wilma D. (Willie) Yoakley.
I research the Yoakley family for my cousins, grandchildren of W. Carlos Yoakley (1883-1958).

I am the granddaughter of William Carlos Yaokley and sadly I never met him. My mother is Georgia Ernestine Yoakley Voth who died about 10 years ago. My grandmother was Beulah Mannering Yoakley Brillhart. I have gained a few facts that have affirmed what I thought I already knew. Thanks. I would like to hear from you.
