Did you ever find anything about John Yock/Yoak? I hard that he was born n 1770, came to the states in 1790 from Germany, and father's name may have been Tobias Please advise if you learned more
|
No, I have not been able to find anything. The name "Tobias" is new to me, where did you see it?
|
I believe I saw Tobias on this web site under YOCK...but it does rhyme with Elias

Ok, this is the info that I have found out on John Yoak (abt 1770-abt1842) I can't verify anything beyond that, nor can anyone else I've corresponded >>with who is working on the line, but we are reasonably sure that the name >>is derived from the German "Joch." Johan George Joch arrived in the US from >>the port of Rotterdam on 11 November 1752. Listed by the ship's clerk as >>John George Yoak, he later used the name George Yoke when he took the oath >>to the crown in 1759. He had at least one son, Phillip, who was living in >>Pennsylvania with three sons under the age of 16 in 1790. Three >>brothers-John, Elias and Solomon Yoak-living in Virginia by the early 1800s >>are believed to be these sons of Phillip. >> John Wesley Yoak (1924-1972), son of >>Creed Yoak (1886-1952), son of >>Isaac Yoak (1829-1908), son of >>Elias Yoak (1801-1855), son of >>John Yoak (abt 1770-abt 1842)
Send me a email if this helps.......
I am searching too, but I am at the very beginning...any info that anyone could provide to help out would be greatly appreciated!!!!
