I am looking for more information regarding to the family of the Yoachum’s. They were one of the first families to have arrived in Christian County, Missouri approximately during 1820 or 1821. Please contact me if you can tell me what you know about them.
(NOTE: I'm not related to them, but I am looking for more information since I am researching as much information about this family as I can.)

yoachum
3 yoachum brothers came from arkansas to greene county missouri by the delaware indian village next to the land owned by edward thompson. that area was later named christian county 1/2 mile south of the james river. soloman, jacob, and james solomon left for california but may have returned to cristian county before his death. george yoachum father of twins augustene (buried in glenn cemetery nixa mo and president of the bank in ozark) and aufustene's twin brother solomon George is the brother of soloman's, jacob's, and james' father. george is buried in wall cemetery on private land just east of jamesville intersection. this is the family of the "yocum silver dollar" ledgend. a lot of the family trees are incorrectly posted because of the different spellings of the names and this family named their children the same names. the yoachums built a griss mill at the fork of the james and findley rivers. they built another mill at riverdale road and hwy 160 where the old iron bridge used to be. they built the mill in ozark also.
I would like to know what information you get on this family to help us sort out the names and people in our family.

I am decended from Jacob Yocum who married Malinda Johnson 1 Apr. 1847, Barry Co., Mo. They had one son, Martin B. who was 2 on 1860 Barry Co. census. He spelled his name, Yochum, as did George & Alcey's son William who married Barbara Moore. Their decendents continue to spell the name Yochum. Do you have any info on this Jacob? Is he the same Jacob Yochum that married Delana Dotson & listed on 1870 Stone Co. census Hh#641? Who are his parents?

Does anyone have info on an L. Yoachum born abt 1828 in Kentucky? There is a record in the 1850 census for Thomas Patterson and wife L. Patterson which shows her as being age 22 in 1850 (Taney MO). I believe her maiden name is Yoachum because there are two children living with them noted as follows: L. Yoachum age 15 and M. Yoachum age 13. I'm not sure how they are related but based on their ages and the age of L. Patterson I am thinking they are younger siblings of hers. I also believe her son is William Patterson b.1849 (1850 census shows him as 1 yr old, 1860 census shows him as age 11). L. Patterson died before 1853 when Thomas remarried Matilda Gray. Matilda was previously married to Unknown Essary. They had one child together named Mary Patterson. Matilda died bef 1860 as she does not appear with Thomas and William. Oddly, neither does their child Mary Patterson. Thomas remarries again to Atlanta Hunt who was previously married to Allen Crouch. Mary appears in the 1870 census w/ Thomas & Atlanta as age 15. There is also William and who I believe is his wife, Elizabeth maiden name unknown. Atlanta and Allen had 1 child named Jonathon Crouch. Atlanta and Thomas had 1 child named Nancy Jane Patterson. Allen Crouch was previously married to Jane Hickman and together they had 7 children. I am descended from their son James Elbert Crouch.
UPDATE 12/11/14: It is possible that L. Yoachum was actually born around 1817 and the children listed with her and Thomas in the 1850 census are hers from a previous marriage to an unknown Yoachum.
