Howdy
Your list of imigrant records is very helpful. Where did you obtain the info? and how are you related, or involved, with the Ylens? My wife is related to almost every Ylen presently in the US.
My ancestry research on my wife's family includes the 3 brothers Adolf (I have his middle name as Gustof not W.), Johan (I have his middle name as Kustaa not Gustaf), Waldemar ( I didn't have his first name of Sixus, just the Waldemar) and Adolf's daughter Amelia ( I have her spelling as Amaalia, and here common name as Molly) that you list -- although I have different information as indicated. All eventually resided in upstate MN or WI.
Do you have any additional info on Hilma Sofia Ylen? She must be related since she also came from Janakkala and just about the same year -- but I have no record of her.

I'm sorry you're not a Ylen, but I notice on one of your other messaes that you are a Koski. Any relation to the Koski's of Floodwood MN, who emigrated from Finland as Hirsikoski. The name was cut short at our immegration. My wife's parents surnames were Koski and Ylen.

Don,
Do you have any info of a John Ylen?
My grandmother's birth certif. names her father as John Ylen (Yleu). Grandmother was born in PA. in 1901. John was not married to my great-grandmother Nancy because Nancy's parents forbid her to marry John. The result of this union was my grandmother Bertha. I have had no luck locating this man.

I have records of two John Ylen's, but as far as I can see they never lived in PA. Both migrated to MN or MI and died there.

In Reference records from the emigrant Finland i did find this death record: It does not give much information. He death appeard in the 1931 church calendar record. If this was him.I had little luck finding him in the census at the right age, they all seem to young if your grandmother was born in 1901. Last name: Ylen First names: John Other names: * Date fo birth: 99.99.9999 Place of birth: * State of birth: * Country of birth: * Date of death: 99.99.9999 Place of death * State of death: * Country of death: *
References: - Siirtokansan kalenteri 1931: 110 ("SAARNAAJA J. K. YLEN"). Remarks: Vanh: Juho Kustaa ja Edla Maria Ylen.

Depending on how old John was when he died, it is possible that he was grandmother's father. My great grandmother, Nancy was only 17 when Bertha was born. I've been searching Jefferson and Clearfield Co. and not having any luck. Thanks for this record. The little bit of info will help me.
