Now we do seem to have a match. I have a Johan Kustaa (JK)Ylen (born 7-11-1857, died 11-16-1930) Ylen married to an Edla Maria. JK is the brother of my wife's grandfather.
They had a son named Johannes (John Hill) Ylen (born 1-7-1879 in Helsingissa Finland, died 1-9-1931 in Fine Lakes MN). He had 4 children (Kenneth, Marcella, Maria, and Annabelle). Fine Lakes is an area south of present day Floodwood MN. JK Ylen was a noted minister. The story goes that his son John so disliked his father that he changed his name to John Hill, all of his children had Hill as a surname. I have an extensive Ylen geneology. If in fact the two John Ylens are the same person, then the dislike (and name change) may have been traced to the romance and child mentioned as happening in PA.

Don,
Here is all I have on John Ylen (Yleu). According to my grandmother, Bertha's birth certificate: John was living on Walnut Alley, his occupation is listed as coal miner. Bertha's mother was Nanny Wingert. Bertha was born in Jefferson Co., Pa. April 13, 1901. I believe she was born in Punxsutawney. It is hard for me to fathom why Nanny's parents would forbide her to marry John, as Nanny's background is Welsh/Irish. The story I keep getting from the elders of my family is that this John was part Native American. This where I'm stuck at.

Don,
Johann Kustaa 11 July, 1857 was also father of Sigrid Emelia who was my great grandmother. He was married to Edla Maria Felin b.20 Mar., 1850 d. 16 Apr, 1934.
My family info is that Johan's father was named Israel Ylen. I would be interested in exchanging info.

Howdy I have a very complete line on JK Ylen's brother Adolf Gustof Ylen -- since he is my wife's grandfather. On your side I have Sigrid as marrying a Mr. Newman, and having 6 children (whose name and birth dates I have) -- and nothing else. No death dates, no marriages, no grandchildren, etc..
I also have a lot of info on other JK children's families provided by Joan Ylen (JOY being her original initials), a granddaughter of JK.
Yes I would love to exchange info.

Don, Hilia Sofia Ylen is my husbands grandmother. Her maiden name is Hemming. I too am looking to find more info on the Ylen name. Specifically I am looking for her husband George Ylen. He was born May 9, 1990 in Finland. I would like to find out when he immigrated here. He Married Hilia or Hilja Sofia Ylen. He died on 17 May 1975 in Ironwood, Gogebic, Michigan. If you would like more info on Hilia Sofia Ylen, I just came across a webpage that was extemely helpful. Here is a link: http://www.fortunecity.com/millennium/hindmarsh/384/d1114.ht...This information led me to: http://my.execpc.com/~mhemming/hemmgen1.htmlHope it helps, Sheri Ylen

I have most of the information you are looking for. My mother-in-law was a Ylen, and as such my wife is related to almost every Ylen in the country.
Your George Ylen was born as Yrjo Waino Ylen, on 5-9-1890 in Helsinki, Finland. He immigrated in 1892, via Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, with his father Johan Kustaa Ylen. Johan was commonly know as JK Ylen, and was a noted minister in the Apostolic Church in Minnesota.
My mother-in-law is the daughter of Adolf Ylen, JK's brother. I have an extensive genealogy of the Ylen's with most of JK's side furnished by another Joy, Joan Onerva Ylen Kornrumph, who now lives in Florida.
I have Helia as being born on 3--18-1901, in Ishpeming, <I. the 1930 census has her living with George and children in Fine lakes Township, St. Louis Countyu, MN -- near where my mother-in-llaw's family lived. Her parents were Herman Mattson Hemming and Maria Katarina Jacaabsdr Ekblom.
I would be pleaser to provide any further information you desire. In exchange I would appreciate learning of your immediate Ylen family. My Joy only knew of the other Joy, Jill, and Julie — and their husbands names -- but couldn't tell me any further than that. For example, I have no Sheri Houchen, or Sheri Ylen, or ....

Don, I would love to exchange information with you! Joy, Joan Onerva Ylen Kornrumph is my husband's Aunt. Matter of fact, she was just here to visit while the hurricanes took over Florida. I know that I do not have nearly what you have, I can only tell you about the immediate family. My father in law is the Wayne Ylen spoke of in other messages. Jill, Julie, and Joy Ylen are daughters of David Ylen. David, Wayne and Joy Kornrumph are all cyblings. You can check out my page at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/y/l/e/Sheri-Ylen/... It is not current, and still in draft form. Any Help, would be appreciated, Sheri
