Looking for data on Civil War veterans named Yinglin
who served with the 87th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
The unit mustered in York in September 1861. I am
writing a history of the regiment and seek firsthand
accounts by the veterans. I am also building a
database of personal data on each soldier and need
your help in that huge task.

NOTE: Both men were brothers living in Hanover, York
County, at the time they enlisted.

1) Yingling, George Edward Pvt Co G; Oct 28, 1862, as a
volunteer; discharged June 29, 1865; born 1836; died
April 1, 1906, in Westminster, Maryland; coach trimmer
by trade; a band member who was seldom with his company;
captured at the battle of Carter's Woods June 15, 1863;
broken from corporal; married Mary Jane Kelly October 6,
1866, in Westminster; Mary died 1890; George remarried ?

2) Yingling, Silas Christian Pvt Co G; mustered Oct 31,
1861, as a volunteer; discharged Oct 13, 1864; born
May 31, 1839; died March 3, 1916, in Franklin Grove,
Lee County, Illinois

Connie-
I have traced my Yingling ancestors to Chambers who served in the 78th Regiment that you referred in your post. The only thing I have found on Chambers to date (I just began my research a couple of weeks ago) is that he did serve in the CW. I would like to know what information you have on him in your book that you referred to. Thought it might assist or at least provide additional information for my files. Thank you for any assistance.

I just have to ask, do you have any information on Silas's descendants? My grandfather's name was Silas, he was born in 1912 but knew little about his father's family as his father had left PA. before his birth and gone to Chicago. Yingling is just such an uncommon name anyway and to have another Silas on top of it...I'm looking for a Jacob Yingling or Jeremiah David Yingling anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm sorry to say that I don't even have a wife for
Silas much less children. (Back then, the two generally
went together.) I know a lot about his brother, George,
but nothing more about Silas other than he died in
Franklin Grove, Illinois. Check the census for 1880 and
1990. You may find him in the abbreviated 1890 census.
