My husbands family is originally from the Greek community in Asia Minor, from the area around Smyrna. His Grandfather died defending a bridge from the Turks. If anyone knows someone who would have information about families Yiannou (or Giannou, or Giannoy) or Gkoufa, please contact me.

My wife's grandfather, Aristos Giannou, is from Smyrna and fled to Samos, where he married my wife's grandmother, Anna Lekas. He emigrated to US in early 1900's ? With his brother-in-law, Harry Lekas. Have not been able to trace the family name of Lekas (but they lived in the village of Leka). We think that the sister of the grandmother, named Marigo, married the brother of the grandfather, with last name of Giannou, but don't know name of the brother. My wife's grandparents settled in Cleveland, using the last name of John. My wife's father, George Johns, was the only family member to add an "s" at the end. Would like to find more about the grandmother, Anna Lekas John, and the grandfather, Aristos John (Giannou) and further connections within the two families. If anyone has family from Leka and knows of these families, please respond. The name could also be Yiannou
