Could anyone help me out on this.
I am researching the Yewdell family name for a lady from Sunderland.
I have got John Robert Yewdell marrying Hannah Skelton in Sunderland in 1849 and am looking for John's father William and
his job is given as land agent.(age given for John R on marriage certificate is full age)
Being from yorkshire myself I have found most of the 'Yewdall' named people but this one is new to me.

I don't know that I can help you with William Yewdell as he was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. The Anthony Skelton in the 1851 census as brother in law (suspect it is father-in-law)was baptised in Penshaw All Saints 17 Oct 1779 born Penshaw s/o John and Mary Skelton. Siblings were: John baptised 5 Aug 1770 born Bowes House, and William baptised 28 Apr 1776 born Biddick.

Hannah Skelton was baptised in Houghton le Spring St. Michael and All Angels 14 Jan 1821 d/o Anthony and Elizabeth. Sibling include Elizabeth baptised 26 June 1814, and Mary Ann baptised 5 April 1818.

There is a member submission on the LDS site that states Anthony Skelton married Elizabeth Harvey in Bishopwearmouth 22 Nov 1803 The extracted records has Anthony Shelton.

Houghton le Spring baptisms:

Mary Skelton, Mid Herrington, born 18 Dec 1804, baptised 18 Dec 1804 1st daughter of Anthony Skelton, husbandman, native of Penshaw by his wife Elizabeth Harvey native of Durham

Anthony Skelton, East Herrington born 10 Dec 1806 baptised 22 March 1807 3rd son(I think 2nd) of Anthony Skelton, labourer, native of Painshaw (Penshaw) by his wife Elizabeth Harvey native of Durham (City)

William Skelton, East Herrington born 4 Feb 1810 baptised 4 March 1810, 3rd son (?) of Anthony Skelton, labourer, native of Painshaw by his wife Elizabeth Hervey, native of Durham

Joseph Skelton, East Herrington, born 27 Feb 1812, baptised 7 June 1812 4th son of Anthony Skelton, Husbandman, native of Painshaw by his wife Elizabeth Harvey native of Durham

Hope this fills out some of the holes in the family tree

Thanks for that, but I am more interested in William.
If only I could find out his year of birth that would be a start.Bearing in mind Leeds covers a wide area, spent most of last evening searching Leeds and surrounding areas all in vain.

All I know is that in the 1851 census he indicated birth place as Leeds. I couldn't find him in the 1861 census. If he was a mariner--lucky to have found him in the 1851. Sorry my area of expertise is Co. Durham which is why I gave you what I had.

The 1851 census HO107/2395 folio 159 page 24 has his name as Robert John Youdell, age 34 (or 24)and born Leeds. I couldn't tell you if William was from there. On the IGI for Saint Peter, Leeds there is a Robert Yewdall baptism for 15 June 1821 with father William and mother Faith. I would think you might have to look at the entry to see if the occupation matches--maybe.
