Surnames: Yetski, Goetzke, Gotzke, Gaetz, Yutski
I have a family of Goetzke’s from the Lobsens, Posen, Prussia area in the mid-19th century. Note that there are many variations on the spelling of the name "Goetzke". In various records it appears as: Goetzke; Gotzke (with & without the umlaut (2 dots) over the "o"); Gaetz; Yetski; and Yutski. I presume that this is because of the guttural German pronunciation of the "Go” and the difficulty of spelling without the umlaut.

The first known reference to Johann and Wilhelmina (Kienitz) Goetzke is in the baptismal record of Friedrich Wilhelm Goetzke, in Vandsburg, in West Prussia. Vandsburg is now known as Wiecbork, Bydgoszcz, Poland, and is about 14 miles northeast from Lobsens, Posen, Prussia (=Lobzenica, Bydgoszcz, Poland. The baptismal record shows that Friedrich Wilhelm Goetzke was born in Neu Lubez, Posen, Prussia on August 6, 1848, and was baptized in the Evangelical Church at Vandsburg, Posen, Prussia on August 12, 1848. The Vandsburg church records can be found on LDS ufilm #0245422.

The next mention of Johann and Wilhelmina (Kienitz) Goetzke is in baptismal records for Johann Daniel Goetzke and Charles Wlhelm Goetzke. Johann was born December 3, 1850 in Dreidorf, Posen, Prussia. Driedorf is a small town halfway between Vandsburg and Lobsens, and is now know as Dzwierszno, Bydgoszcz, Poland. Johann was baptized at the Evangelical Church at Lobsens, Posen, Prussia (LDS Library ufilm #0245515) on December 14, 1850. Charles Wilhelm Goetzke was also born in Dreidorf, on March 5, 1854, and baptized at the Lobsens Evangelical Church, on March 19, 1854.

The next mention of the family is again in the Lobsens baptismal record, with the baptism of their last 3 children. Wilhelmine Goetzke was born on October 08, 1856, and her place on birth is listed as “Heidchen”. Wilhelmine was baptized at the Lobsens Evangelical church on October 19, 1856. August Julius Goetzke was born on November 14, 1859 and baptized on December 26, 1859, and Rocine Luise Goetzke was born on October 22, 1863 and baptized on November 1, 1863.

Charles, August , Wilhelmina and Rocine Goetzke immigrated to the U.S. and settled in the Mt. Carmel, Pa. area. I have more info on each.

Surnames: JETZKE, JAETZKE, GAETZKE, GOETZKE, YETZKE
Mark - My family name has been spelled many different ways. One of the ways I found it spelled was "Jetzke". Some of the other spellings I have found are Jaetzke, Gaetzke, Goetzke and a few others. My family comes from Kries Briesen, West Prussia. The earliest "Jetzke" I have is Johann Jaetzke married to Catherina Schienman. Their children were:
Euphrozina b. 1799, Budczek, Kries Briesen, W. P.
Maria b. 1802, Budczek, Kries Briesen, W. P.
Catherina b. 1806, Budczek, Kries Briesen, W. P.
Sara b. 1808, Budczek, Kries Briesen, W. P.
Helena b. 1809, Deutsche Lopatken, Kries Briesen, W. P., married Christian Ploetz.
Paul b. about 1811, Married Sophia Ploetz December 1, 1934 in Groß Ksionsken, W. P. (Paul would be my Great great grandfather).

Mark, I had an uncle Ed Yetzke in St. Joeseph, Mich. that had quite a large family, 12 children, that died several years ago. He was a "Jetzke" but since there is no "J" sound in German, Jetzke in German was pronounced Yetzke, so they changed the spelling from "J" to "Y".
My father was Rudolph Jetzke and he had a brother Herbert. We lived in Detroit, Mich. We now live in N.W. Arkansas. We moved from Mich. to Kansas City in 1980 and to Arkansas in 1997. In addition to myself, there was Al, Harold, Herbert, George, Clara and Shirley. These were my brothers and sisters. Shirley and myself are the only ones living. I hope this helps. I hope to hear from you.

Mark,

Herbert Jetzke, from Detroit, was my uncle. He had a son, Herbert, and he is my cousin. He would be about 74 years old. The father passed away several years ago. His wife's name was Anna.

Are you the grandson of Herbert Jetzke, the one about 74?

Do you live in Michigan?

I would like to hear from you.
