Looking for information on Virginia Yetto,b.Canada, married Lawrence Powers in Canada, possibly around London, Ontario. They had daughter, Annie Jane, b. 1862 who married Michael Delaney Feb.26, 1895 aty Harpers' Ferry, Allamakee County, IA,and moved to Dodge County, NE. Another daughter of Lawrence and Virginia was Katherine, who married a Donnelly (Donley?).

Read your e-mail about Lawrence Powers. Looking for a John Powers, born in New York with unknown parents, who lived with Lawrence Powers, widowed, in Taylor, Allamakee County Iowa in 1900. Lawrence was from Canada. No other children listed. John was listed as "adopted". By 1910 Lawrence is dead, actually buried in Allamakee and John has disappeared. John could be my grandfather, who showed up from nowhere in New York by 1905. Perhaps he was a distant relative or part of the orphan train. Do you have any mention of John in your findings?

Hi,Mike~ I'm wondering if there were possibly two Lawrence Powers in Allamakee County, IA at that time. I have a copy of a reminescence by Katherine Anna Delaney Connolly, stating that her mother, Annie Jane Powers was a daughter of Lawrence Powers, lived at Harper's Ferry, AllamakeeCo, IA. Lawrence had a store there. There were, according to Katherine, three boys (Jim, John, Tom) and three girls (Annie Jane, Katherine and Mary). She says that "the boys married and lived in that area through their lives. One in Gothenburg, one [in] McGregor, and one in LaCrosse, WI. They were all railroad employees. They had several children. Many cousins still live in eastern and northern Iowa." Katherine Delaney Connolly was my grandmother's first cousin, born April 04,1903, died June 19, 2000 at Omaha, NE.

Elizabeth,
Thank you for your swift reply. There probably were many Powers that moved through the area (and that´s my problem).
The Lawrence I am looking at was probably born in 1827 or 1830. He died in 1901-02 (and is buried in Allamakee) and had no other family other than the adopted John (born 1885 or 1886).
It seems however that finding folks in Iowa is a lot simplier than in Brooklyn New York. It was a long shot, at least I know it wasn´t that branch of the family.
Regards,

Mike
