Re: Request for information
I can't help you with info, although, I am curious about Sam Yett, and his cultural identity, I am classified as causasion, but I have feelings and some limited knowledge about other ethnic cultural backgrounds in our family, as I was growing up, the historians were always fired when they came up with any information about anybody other than causasian, I am very interested if you recieved any info concerning your request. I must tell I feel the blood of american indian and african americans in my veins, call me crazy if you will, it's just something spiritual that is bugging me, very curious. I am hoping my relatives were not slave owners, but had loving relationships with other cultural backgrounds. Sorry, I can't help you at the time, but I am starting to research the family tree, and may come up with something, hopefully positive. Sincerely, Michael Charles Yett

Research stalled for time-being.
Hello Diana, sorry I have not replied, your message somehow got lost in all of the turmoil of the holiday season. I am going through some possible changes here in the first part of the year, and may not be able to pick up on my research until sometime in the Summer of this year. When I do, I hope that I can remember to keep you informed. I apologize for not getting back with you sooner. I hope your son's and your research is coming along good. I saw a piece on HBO about a famous photographer, writer, movie director, Gordon Parks, and he had a man named Samuel Yette, help him. I taped the piece, and noticed the man had a lot of facial features that seemed to fit mine. All in all, I find this to be some very interesting elements of life. Hope you have a nice Dr. Martin Luther King holiday!
Sincerely,
Michael!

Diana, My great g-ma was Mary Elizabeth Yett. Her father was Dr. Jim Yett, born 1828 in Parrottsvill, TN. This is a white family. The family story goes "Dr. Jim was captured during the civil war and his "man" Jim, (later took the name Yett but spelled it differently, that I saw on the census data when I looked up this huge family) helped him escape. They came to Texas to join the rest of the Yett family. My g-ma remembers Jim, Sam and his family living with them in Texas. If this sounds like your story I'll get the exact line from my aunt. Beth

Re: Request for information
Micheal: Re your /our ethnic heritage: My uncle lewis yett. was telling me last month that we definately have cherokee blood in us. he said he was 1/16th and that would make me 1/32. this union if you will took place at a very bad time in history for the indian, probably 1850-1880. also at my grandmotherws funeral abot 10 years ago there were many people. and during pictures,in an effort to see who was family and who was not, I requested a picture of just grandkids. And to my surprise and there were several african americans. I have never been racist and who of my family that i do know have never known any of us top be racist. My uncle also said that we did not own slaves. but in reading an article in this boardroom i thought maybe someone did. Good luck!
Tom Yett...
p.s. i am knew to internet and very interested in discoveringmy lineage.email me aty tomyett@hotmail .com if anyone can help.
