Re: Yetts (African American) originally from TN to Burnet, Texas
Sorry it took me so long to reply. My family started with Joseph Yett and Katherine Yett. They were from Tennessee. They were half-white, known in those days as Mulattoes. They had one daughter born in Tennessee named Dicy(sp). After arriving in Texas with Dr. Pleasant Yett, they had about nine or ten more children. Most all of the children or grandchildren had the same names as Dr. Yett's children.

Marion Yett was my great-grandfather. When he went to World War 1, the military changed his name to Martin.

Re: Yetts (African American) originally from TN to Burnet, Texas
I am completing a family history book. What I have found is that Joseph and Katherine Yett came from Tenn with Dr. Pleasant Yett. Joseph and Katherine had 14 children, Dicy, Harriett (my great-great-great grandmother), Nancy, Lucinda, Ellie, Jeff, Lewis, Joseph, C (unable to read), William, Sam, Emma, George and Florence. Which one was your great-great-great grandfather? Thank you.

Re: Yetts (African American) originally from TN to Burnet, Texas
It's wonderful to find people researching the African American Yett family. My mother, and sister and I began searching for my brother-in-law (sister's husband) because he really knew nothing beyond his grandparents. His mother's family are descended from Nancy Yett. That's as far as we had found, and we were wondering if there is any information on the family prior to their arrival in Texas.

Re: Yetts (African American) originally from TN to Burnet, Texas
I just read your posting from a few years ago! It's amazing. If Joseph and Katherine Yett, the founders of your line, were half-white, that makes me wonder if the white ancestry is one we share, maybe through the Yetts or another close family - since families tended to travel together and intermarry, and ours did. It's probably a reasonable guess that we're related. Also, the name Dicy appears on our family tree. Dicy Mitchell m. Thomas Middleton, if I remember correctly, so that's another connection. I've never heard the name Dicy anywhere else. Let me try to give you contact info that may pass the censors, so we can write directly: my first and last name, written in small letters, as one word, then the little figure over the 2 on the keyboard, then the three letters that are the abbreviation for inter-galactic-comedies,then period, then the abbreviation for old-rag-green. I hope this works. I've had so much trouble with the company over-billing me. I hope to hear from you. We have a lot to share! Jane Yett
