I have recently had a lengthy discussion with a Yereance researcher who posted on the Waters surname board. The meat of the thread starts at http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.waters/111.119.165.168.1...

Can anyone here connect her Henry (possible son of Jan Jurrianse and Syntje Maurese) to previous generations?

From HISTORY OF HUDSON COUNTY by Winfield

First he describes a port in Denmark, "lying along the German Ocean, was called Ripen"

Quote:

From this port, in April, 1663, a vessel named "T'Bonte Koe" (The Spotted Cow) sailed for New Netherlands with eighty-nine passengers, consisting of men, women, and children. Among the number was Juriaen Tomasseu, a young man of the City of Ripen. About four years after his arrival he married Pryntje Hermans, May 25, 1667; died September 12, 1695. Some of his descendants took the name of Jurianse - now Yereance and Auryansen, - while others, taking the name of the city from which their ancestors sailed, became Van Ripen.
