I had been in contact with the Head Librarian at GWBC Mrs. F.Hooper, f.hooper@gwc.org.uk, about my immediate family and she had been very helpful, so I listed the surnames I was interested in and the time span and she sent me a list of people, all of who were relatives except Stewart Browning Yerbury, hence the interest.

Cheers
Niall

James (1820-64) and William Browning Yerbury (1831-79) were the 7th an 11th children of William Yerbury nd Harriett Lugg who married in 1808 and James was the first that I know to have "Brownng" in his name. William was the 5th child of Benjamin Yerbury (1738-84) and Susannah Appleton (1747-1830) and their 4th child, Hephzibah (1780-?), was married to James Browning so perhaps "Browning" was introduced when Hephzibah married or when her husband died.

I believe that there is a Will for James Browning of Frome at the PCC dated 1838 (which I don't have) - Richard Appleton Yerbury's will of 1825 also mentions the Brownings.

That is really helpful! Can you tell me where I can find sources for this information? The only other browning I noted in the Yerbury line was back in 1500 or so... this seems more probable. Thank you very much!
