I am seeking information on an ancestor of mine called Francis Yerbury Williams born 1802. He seems to be related to Yerbury family from Braford on Avon in some way. In the family tomb in Bath Abbey there is a panel related to a Francis Yerbury of this city late of Belcombe House Bradford died Dec 11th 1879. I am interested in his relationship to Francis Yerbury Williams. His wife Jane Weeks is also in the tomb but not Francis Yerbury Williams . Can any one help in linking the Williams and Yerbury families for me. Incidently in the 1851 census Frnacis Yerbury Williams was listed as a widower residing in Bradford on Avon. I have yet to find the missing link I have no birth data (parents, etc) for him.

I think I'm at last able to shed a little light on this question. I think the man you seek was the brother of John William YERBURY (1804 - 1858) and thus Francis YERBURY. The "William" bit is possibly taken from his father (also John Wm Y) but, having seen a possible for Francis in the 1871 census (Bath Walcot, aged 69 daughter Jane F aged 23 and a servant Jane Rennison) I looked again at Gordon Beavington's transcript for Bath Walcot and lo! there's a Francis WILLIAMS aged 49 with a daughter Jane (3) and a servant Jane KENNISON. That being the case, and I can't but think it's the answer, he's descended from the Bradford Yerburys of whom his grandfather and great grandfather were the builders of Belcombe Court and to which Francis was probably heir or part heir. It is also more likely that he's buried at Bradford than Bath - his father went back to the CofE though earlier generations were Presbyterians. Hope this helps.
