I am a descendant of Moses Yeomans of Colchester (b 1710 d 1778). Has anyone done DNA testing on the various lines of Yeomans? There is a group that has tested the Christopher Yeomans line, but I am specifically looking for the Stonington Ct lines and the Tolland CT lines. I think they are somehow connected to my line, but I can't find the common ancester (I don't know my Moses' parents or the town of his birth).

I'm also a descendant, through their son Gilbert. Gilbert and his family moved to Henry County Iowa around 140, where he died in 1845. One son Solon Yeoman moved to Linn County Oregon between 1840-1850.

I too am descended from Stephen and Abigail, through Walter. However, Walter had another son not mentioned above, William born in 1812. William lived in Fayette County Ohio and had other children, one of whom was Walter Yeoman born in 1853. Walter fought in the Civil War on the side of the Ohio Union troops. He later settled in what became Sarcoxie Missouri. This is an ironic choice as Sarcoxie was a stronghold of the Confederacy. My grandmother, Martha Alice Yeoman, was one of Walter's daughters and married LeeRoy (some records indicate RoyLee) Abram. They lived in Sarcoxie Missouri where my father was born. My father, George LeeRoy Abram was born in Missouri, the youngest of 5 children (Cecil, Richard, Ima, Ada, George) My grandmother, grandfather, aunts and my father all moved to Californian during the Great Depression of the 1930's.

I have found quite a bit of information at the DAR headquarters in Washington, DC. There the story of Stephen and Abigail is well documented. However, my father told me a further story: Stephen, Abigail, children and other families left New York after the War as New York became too crowded for them. They floated down the Ohio River on rafts. One raft broke apart and so they settled in the Ohio territory in what became Washington Court House. Stephen, a miller, built the first brick house and mill in the area. I don't know how true this old family tale might be as I have heard no corroborating evidence regarding the rafts on the Ohio.

I'm having lots of fun tracing the family and researching some of the members in greater detail. This is how I came upon this message board.

Please keep me in the loop.

Dr. Trudi Abram, daughter of George LeeRoy, grand-daughter of Martha, great-grand-daughter of Walter, and so on......

PS. I live in Glendale California.
