Like you, I am a Yelf descendent. My great-great-great-great grandmother Ann Yelf (daughter of James and Ann Yelf of Spicer's Farm, Arreton, IOW) married Isaac Atkey in 1792. Their son James Atkey went to Canada in 1853 as a missionary, and I'm writing a book about him.

Did you see the message from Harold Hornung,B.C.Canada,re;the Atkey connection?I have found the link upto 1802 with the marriage of Robert Sophia Yelf in Newport. My Yelf connection came from London and my grandmother was Elizabeth Eva Yelf, daughter of Frank Amour William Yelf. How was Ann Yelf related to this line?? Carole in Canada.

Ann was the daughter of James and Ann (Midlane) Yelf and the granddaughter of Robert Yelf, who held a lease on Spicer's Farm at Arreton. Incidently, the Yelf's are related to the Dairyman's Daughter, the subject of the most successful religious tract of the 19th century, and whom Dickens refered to. (She was Ann's cousin: her mother was Elizabeth (Yelf) Wallbridge.

Your Robert is the brother of my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandmother Ann. His son Thomas was a taylor, and he had a son named Joshua with whom my great-great-great-great-grandfather Isaac Atkey (husband of Ann Yelf)lived in Nodehill until he (Isaac) died.
