Lydia Specht of Longmont died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at The Peaks Care Center. She was 90.
She was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to George and Mary (Tempel) Yekel.
She married John Earl Specht in 1934 in Gering, Neb.
Mrs. Specht lived most of her married life in Maywood, Ill., raising her five children. She moved to Longmont in 1961 from Maywood to be closer to her family. She cleaned houses for some of the pioneer families of Longmont and will be remembered as a dear friend to all for whom she worked.
She was a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Longmont.
Mrs. Specht was preceded in death by her husband in 1961; a son, James Arthur Specht; a grandson, Jeffrey Earl Specht; six sisters, including her twin sister, Emma Sauer, Mary Deines, Amelia Schlotthauer, Alvina Dahlinger, Agatha Bock and Bertha Schlager; and a brother, Emanuel Yekel.
She is survived by a son, Donald Specht and his wife Sally of Loveland; three daughters, Barbara Roberts and her husband Robert and Shirley Noreen, all of Longmont, and Debra Specht of Florida; a son-in-law, Keith Noreen of Longmont; a brother, Ray Yekel of Oregon; nine grandchildren, James Specht and his wife Tammy of Thornton, Jayson Specht and his wife Sherry of Loveland, Mark Roberts and his wife Michelle of Longmont, Eric and Daniel Hogan of Oklahoma, BJ of Florida, Melissa Christen and her husband Jeremy of Frederick, Robin Noreen-Boyd and her husband Jim of Mead, and Kelly Marriott and her husband Kirk of Johnstown; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will precede the funeral service, to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Berke of First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Private interment will take place at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
