Jehling or Yehling that is the question.............
Hello,
My name is Richard and I am coming to this message board to plea for assistance. I went to the message board "Jehling", but there was none to be found. I knew that earlier forms of Jehling were often spelled "Yehling or Yealink". However, I am asking for help in searching for my G-Grandfather's parents and ancestors. They were primarily from Waterloo, IL; or the area of Monroe County, IL.. My G-Grandfathers name was Fred J. Jehling. He was Married to an Orlena Eidmann. I believe his parents were Clemens Jehling and Wilhelmina Priester, (but I have nothing to confirm this). Fred also had a brother named Clemens. I hope someone can help me. I also have dates if that would help anyone. Sincerely,
Richard Campen

Re: Jehling or Yehling that is the question.............
a quick note. Jehling is the original spelling. Yehling is a derivative. Supposedly the change happened during the civil war and some of the family changed the name while some retained it. Fred is very common in the Jehling tree. Some dates would be helpful

Re: Jehling or Yehling that is the question.............
Fred J. Jehling was the first husband of Orlena Eidmann. After he died she married Albert Pistor. Orlena was the 3rd child of Chris and Elizabeth Eidmann. Orlena had two daughters but I would like to know from what husband? I would also like to know Fred's birthdate and death date?

Re: Jehling or Yehling that is the question.............
incorrect, there are only 2 ways of spelling our last name. YEHLING AND JEHLING. THE JEHLING is spelled like that in Germany, it was changed in the U.S. Because in Germany the J is acting y sound so in the U.S. people aren't familiar with the correct way of saying it so 2 brothers went from Germany to Chicago one of them met a Cherokee Indian queen she is my great great grandmother.
