I am researching for information concerning a Gottlieb Yehling, born in Illinois circa 1845 of parents born in Prussia. He married Matilda Louisa Haier on 29 April 1865 in Waterloo, Monroe Co., Ill. They lived most of their lives in DuQuoin, Perry Co., Ill. They had 8 children: John Yehling, William Yehling, Frederick M Yehling, Karl Yehling, Caroline Catherine Yehling, Gottlieb A Yehling, Henry P Yehling and Emma Christina Yehling.

I saw your message regarding Gottleib Yehling in Illinois. I am a descendent of Judith Yehling, daughter of Thomas Oscar Yehling born February 3, 1903, son of Frederick H. Yehling born about 1864; son of Karl Yehling born about 1836. I have little information about the Yehlings. I posted a message to the Perry County web site and received a reply from another Yehling, the grandchild of Charles Yehling, a son of Karl Yehling. If you visit the Illinois marriage web site, you'll see a handful of Yehlings (both male and female) married prior to 1900 in Perry County, Illinois. I have different information on Gottlieb - I have that he married Alvira Roethe in 1901 and he was born about 1876. Maybe this is your Gottlieb A. Yehling? Please let me know if it is! I have not yet checked into this line of my family just yet, but I plan to - one of these days. If you'd like more information please send me an e-mail at lclark@gcd.com and I'll print off what I currently have (and what I do have is only heresay) and send it to you. Good luck.

I am descended from a Mary Yehling, DuQuoin, Co. Illinois. Mary had a brother, Gotlieb, born in 1876. If you think this is a possible match, let me know, I have this family back to the early 1700's.

Joan,
Looking at the family history that I have, I don't have any Mary Yehlings in the tree. There are several Gottliebs in the tree. However, I would be interested in the history that you have as I believe there is a relationship between the family you have traced and my ancestors for the generation with births in the 1840's to 1850's. Please reply to grillsfamily@earthlink.net.

Dennis

I too, am researching the Yehling family. I took a look at my family tree and found a Mary Jane Yehling who married Thomas J. States. According to what I have (which most of it is hearsay) Mary did have a brother Gottlieb; the other siblings I have for Mary are: Fred, Louisa, Sophia and Charles. I would be interested in any information you have on the Yehlings, and I would be more than happy to share what I have as well. Please let me know if you think we have similar branches on our trees. My e-mail is lclark@gcd.com. Thanks!

Jeff,

I don't believe you are directly related to me; however there are many individuals with the surname YEHLING in Illinois. I am descended from Karl "Charles" Yehling; he had a son Frederick H. Yehling; who had a son Thomas Oscar Yehling; who had a daughter Judy Yehling and Judy is my mom. That's my direct line to the Yehling surname; however I did not give you dates and places, because some of these individuals are still living. However I can tell you that Karl "Charles" Yehling was born about 1836 and died about 1909. Most of the Yehlings were from Southern Illinois; however my grandparents and my mom grew up in Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois (just south of Chicago). If you have places and dates, you might be connected to one of Karl's other children (or siblings) for that matter. Good luck. Lori

Hi Jeff (and Lori and Joan and Dennis) I have done quite a bit of research on the AZ beanch of the Yeh;ling family and, because of AZ's right-to-privacy laws have run into some brick walls. There are quite a few Yehlings in Tucson - an attorney and a couple of other families but I haven't yet tied them into the IL families, except to say they came from IL in the 1920's. What can you share?

Kris,

I'm a green bean when it comes to this family history hobby of mine (read: amateur!) The best thing to do is to start with what you know and work your way backwards in time. A lot of the information I have has not yet been proved - it's mostly hearsay - but if you provide me with some more information about your Yehling ancestors, I can also provide you with some information that I have - and it's possible that the branches of our trees are connected. Feel free to send me an e-mail to: lclark@gcd.com (rather than post messages here) with any information you'd like to share. I started this family tree hobby for my son - just like you are for your daughter. Good luck!
