I am tracing the ancestry of the Yehle family and know that they immigrated from Germany around 1890. If anyone has any information they would like to exchange, please let me know. Thanks!

My fathers name is Walter G Yehle Jr. Barbara is my fathers sister.I was wondering if in you search in Germany if you tried to look for the spelling Jehle. My family has heard the when the family imigarted the German "J" was mistaken for the english "Y" and the name should actually be spelled Jehle

Lisa, I'm starting a genealogy on the Yehle
family. My great-grandfather came from Baden-
Baden, Germany in the 1840's. He also originally
spelled the name with a J.
Would love to hear from you if you're still
monitering this site.

I don't have that much information about the Yehle family as I am fairly new to genealogy. I do know that my great-great grandparents came from somewhere in Germany to Philadelphia around 1848. They spelled their name "Yellie" to begin with and then changed the spelling to "Yehle". I am trying to find ships passengers list from Germany to Philadelphia during that time period to see if I can find out where in Germany they came from. The info I have found out so far came from the US Census. If you have any suggestions or need help, please let me know. Thanks!

Dear Sharon (and to the other members of the YEHLE community board),
I have been researching my surname YAHLE for some time now. Through my research, I have discovered that the YAHLE name is actually JEHLE in Germany. My GGGrandfather, Charles Godfrey YAHLE (JEHLE), immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1847 (around the age of ten)according to his naturalization papers). He eventually settled in Dayton,Ohio.

The JEHLE name has gone through a variety of changes. Some of the variations I have found are: JEHLE; YEHLE; YEHLEY; YEALY; YALEY; IHLE - I'm sure there are probably more.
I believe we can safely conduct our research in Germany using JEHLE, but in the U.S., there are obviously several variations that need to be checked as possibilities - indeed, a lot of work and research. Sharon - as you get deeper into your research, you will discover several resources, but for now to check passenger lists, check the PASSENGER AND IMMIGRATION LISTS INDEX by Filby Meyer. Your local library should be able to help you. GOOD LUCK to all of us.

Rita,
My great-grandfather came here from Baden-on-the-Rhine in 1868. His name was Alois, he lived in La Crosse Wisconsin and married Irene Larkin. Do you think there is a relation here?

Hi, Vicki,

I think there is a very good chance that there is
a relationship, but heaven only knows how far back
In Germany they spelled the last name Jehle, and
so far I haven't found a Yehle in Germany, but there are over 250
Jehle's and I was told that the name was changed
when they reached America because the pronunciation
is the same. It's very hard to get any information
from Germany because so many records were
destroyed in the war. Most of the towns which
include the name Baden (which means spa, I've
been told) are in the vicinity of the Black Forest.
I've really just gotten started on this, so haven't
gotten very far, but I am hearing from more Yehle's
every day....it's really exciting.
I will keep you on my mailing list. Please drop me a
note if you find out anything more!
