My family has been in the U.S. for probably since the mid 1700's or early 1800's.
AT this point none remembers what country the name originated .
Can anyone help ? All i want to know is what country did my ancestors come from .

Hi!
I don't know if this will help, maybe not. We've been having a spelling problem too. We have a Yech in our family (probably German), but we also find spellings of Yoech. You could try the German Counselate in the nearest large city. They do have genealogists who are willing to work with people. You can also try ship's passenger lists, if you have some dates to use. Hope you have better luck than we have had. Let me know how you do. Good Luck! BEA

My Grandfather August G.Yech also spelled his name Joech and Jech. His brother Albert used Yoech and another brother Carl used Yaech. My father's family decided on Yeck. Their father August Henry Jech was born on 23 Sept., 1818 in Besinetz, Germany. His wife's name was Augusta Schwabsd. In turn his fathers name was Martin Jech who was married to Otto also born in Besinetz, Geermany, part of the old Prussian Empire.

Hi, Lost my first message, so I'll try to do better on this one. We have an August Yech, born September 23, 1819, and he died Feb. 25, 1898. We also have another August born in 1854 who had a daughter Albertina and a son Karl. The have other listings from the Rock Springs inscriptions, in Sauk County Wisconsin. Is this area familiar to you? Albertina married a Bittrich.

Hi, I think we might have link here. We have an August Yech, born September 23, 1819 and died February 25, 1898. He had a daughter Albertina and a son Karl. There may have been more, but that is all we have.August is buried next to an Albert in the Rock Springs Cemetery in Wisconsin. And there is another August Yech born Cec. 10, 1854 and died Sept. 29 1916. He married an Ernestine Steinhorst. There are 3 very young sons buried near him. The boys all appear to have died within days of each other. It gets quite twisted sometimes. Ernestine remarried a Weinke, and so it goes on. Let me know if this helps. Thamks for your time. Bea Rohde: August Henry Jech was my Great Grandfather, (I have 1818 rather than 1819), August G. Yech, tombstone name,Also used Joech and,Jech. My Father August F. Yeck adopted the Yeck spelling. To the best of my knowledge Karl, Albert, Albertina Bittrich, and Augusta Louise Pirsch were brothers and sisters of August G. Ernestine Steinhorst and the Pirsch's were next to each other on the ships passengers list Apr. 2, 1882. Weinke was my Father's stepfather. We visited the Rock Springs Cemetary last month.I have sent the genealogy of the H. Steinhorst family to Hans Hansen and would be happy to do likewise for you. Keep in touch. Robert Yeck

Bea: Looking over my former message, I decided I must check my spelling before sending. Martin Yeck married a lady whose last name was Ott. The place where Steinhorst was born is Besswitz (Also shown in records as Besintz and Bessvitzh). Ernestine's documents show Seehoff as her place of birth.
