I've been researching the Ybarra's from Silao, Guanajuato for some time now. My name is Eva McHenry, and I'm the grand-daughter of Miguel Ybarra Miranda & Cirila Elias Mendez both of Silao Guanajuato. They are both deceased. Cirila's parents were Francisco Elias & Maria Jesus Mendez of Silao and Miguel' parents were Pedro Ybarra & Lina Miranda, also of Silao. I have a great amount of information regarding their offspring, however, I would appreciate any information on my great-great grandparents. According to my father, the Ybarra family was very influential and a dominant force in Silao in the 19th century. Both the Ybarra and Miranda families built the main "paroquia" (church) in that town. They were architects. The important last names of the town during that era were Miranda, Ybarra, Elias, and Mendez all with roots in Silao. My great-grandmother Maria Jesus Mendez and her sister Seferina were raised by their well-to-do- grandparents who owned a large hacienda (ranch) called "El Jazmin" located in Celaya, Guanajuato. Both sisters (Maria Jesus & Seferina) married two brothers (Fransisco & Eduardo Elias) who were the workers (peons) of their land. I'm sure to the disappointment of their grandparents. I believe Maria Jesus Mendez is now one of the famous "Guanajuato mummies" on display, according to my grandfather. Presently, I'm doing research on the hacienda "El Jazmin" to find out what became of the owners, and the land.
My father and most of his brothers were born in California but returned to Mexico during the Great Depression. Most of them returned to California some years later and lived here until their demise. My father's generation is all gone now but I keep him alive through geneology. If any of these names ring a bell, I would sure appreciate hearing from you. I have lots more information about the Ybarra family of Silao.
