Classification: Query
Surnames: Yazell, Yazel, Yeazel
Interested in any information on this surname or its variants.
Johann Yazel, listed as an ethnic Galician landed at Ellis Island in 1892
Thofil Yozel, ethnically described as Russian/Polish (Galicia?)
landed at Ellis isalnd in 1904.
My ancesters arrived in what is now Cincinnati area of the Ohio River Valley in the late 1790's, having floated down the Ohio River by flatboat to the falls area. Our family verbally passed down two speculations as to name origin: one being Czech/Bavarian...the other Slovakian (which would tend to correlate with Galicia) Other Yazel family geneologies on the web tend to trace the family name to a derviation of the Dutch: Yasselstyne, which I can't verify.

Any information would be appreciated. I can be emailed to ryazman@mac.com or to ryazell@email.fleming.com.

Thanks!
