My name is Chris Yax. My Dad's name is Charles Yax, and my Grandfather's name was Charles Yax. Hey, I even have a brother named Charles Yax! The Yax's roots originated in Buffalo, NY before the Revolutionary War. They came from Germany, near the French border. The name was spelled in the old country; JACHS..... If this description matches your family history, please E-Mail me at the address listed above. Sorry for sounding so straight forward, Chris Yax :0)

Hi Chris Sure sounds like we could be related. This board doesn't show email address unless you type them in. Could you email me some date of birth so I can see if I may have any thing in my data base. I have over 5000 Yax to date and they are still growing. Helen hstande@hotmail.com

Helen, I don't have birthdates currently available. My grandfather, Charles Yax was born in early 1900s. He had a sister named Catherine, and a brother (not sure of his name). I was wrong about Dorothy and Joseph, as their last name was Drum. I do know that my descendants came from Germany (Alscace/Lorraine area) around the 1750s. They arrived in Canada, and settled in Buffalo, NY. I'll try to gather more info and send to you. My e-mail address is cyax@diag.bracco.com. Take care. Chris

Yax family in Buffalo, NY
Chris,
Though most of my immediate family now lives in Rochester, my GGF, Frank E. Yax, was from Buffalo. He had two brothers, Charles and Albert, and two sisters, Emma and Ida.
These were the children of Frank Yax (b. 1845) and Margaret Weitzel. Frank's (the elder) parents were Jacob Yax and Anna Maria Seles (not positive about spelling).
I'm interested in learning anything else about the Yax family in Buffalo.
Thanks, Jeanne

Jeanne: My GF was Joseph Yax, son of Frank Yax and Mary Ann Laforge. He was born in Mi, family had strong Canadian background. My mother, Evelyn Yax, was born in Buffalo in 1915. Am searching for her Mother

Duane,
Since your GF was born in Michigan, am I correct in assuming you are of the Yax line that descends from Michael Yax and Catherine Herbinne in Michigan? While I am not descended from this line (I believe my immigrant ancestors to be Jacob Yax and Anna Maria Seles), I will keep an eye out for your Joseph Yax as I look through Buffalo records.
Please be aware that I am not doing much 20th century research in Buffalo, however, since my GGGM moved to Rochester after her husband died in the mid-1890s.
Best of luck in your searching, Jeanne

I believe the person you are looking for is Edith Grover. Check out the following link: http://www.citynet.net/mostwanted/gri.htmand scroll down to "Grover, Edith." BTW in the 1920 Census, Evelyn Yax, aged 4 years 3 months, was living in Tuscola County, Michigan with a James McCherson (spelling?) Tuscola County was the location of Frank and Mary Ann Yax's homestead.

Hi Chris, just read your message and tried to email but it was undelivered. Your great grandfather was Charles W. Yax. I don't know his exact birth but he died on 2/15/1953. His wife was Frances B. Kern born in 1885 and died in 1961. They had three children - Charles G., Vincent & Catherine. Also, Charles W. had 4 brothers, and a sister. Please get in touch with me for more info Aunt Mimi

Re: Yax family in Buffalo
I read your message board. My grandmother's (Harriet Kruse) mother was Emma Yax daughter of Frank and Margaret (Wetzel) Yax, who was born August 1883 in Buffalo, NY. She married Alonzo Masterton around 1881 in Rochester, NY. She had two brothers, Albert and and Charles (?) and a sister, Ida.
I have been doing extensive research on the family, collecting pictures, etc. It looks like we may be related and I would love to touch base with you to see what information you have gotten and share what I have found.
