I am researching Martha J. Yawn, born abt. 1828 in GA. She married Willis Anderson in 1849 in Henry Co., AL. She had several children. She then married D. F. Herrington, in 1876, in Escambia Co., FL. I would appreciate any info that you might have on Martha. I understand from family history that she might be a Creek Indian. Thanks. Janet

My great grandmother was Mattie Yawn of Merryville, Louisiana. She was about 15 when she married my great grandfather who was about 42 and named Levi Bush. She died at the age of about 42-45 and we have little information other than what I have stated. I went to Merryville, Louisiana this week and found that these Yawn's had moved away. I found a cousin's grave, Fred Taft Yawn, 1901-1979 and his wife Ruby Stephenson Yawn. Other graves in the Merryville Cementary were: Eleaner Yawn Byerly dob 7-22-1914 but not date of death. her husband - Bill Byerly 1st sgt US Army WWII and Korea. 7-30-1918 to 4/26/1983 Wade H Yawn, 7-9-1877 to 12-8-1949 wife Lydia M Yawn 6-23-1878 to 3-23-1938
Miller C Yawn 3/29/1904 to 9/24/1933 Bill Karr Yawn 2/14/1906 ti 4/15/1997
Fred and Ruby Yawn should have a daughter named Naomi who moved to Texas with husband, supposedly and should be about 65 yrs old now. I know that Fred, Ruby, and Naomi are related because my father met them. Mattie's parents are supposed to be Kernilius Yawn and Saree (Sarre or Saru; can't read the notation in my grandmother's bible) Mattie is supposed to be French and Native American (I have heard terms Cherokee, Choctaw and Chickasaw, mentioned). This is all I know but I would like to know more.

Yawns of Lincoln/Franklin Co. MS
Do you have any information on the Yawns of Ms? I am particularly interested in Nannie Yawn who married Joe Williams abt. 1850's. Thanks

To: Bonnie Elaine Yawn Blocker Any information you have will be helpful. My grandfather is Johnnie Jefferson Yawn (born in 1900). His father was Chesley (or Chester) Yawn. Chesley married Lovella Brady (daughter of John Mary Jane Brady). Lovella was said to be part Indian. My grandfather said Chesley and a brother and a sister came from Alabama in ?? but that was all he knew. He did not know what happened to the brother and that the sister married into the Lee's of Lumberton, MS. Chesley and Lovella lived in Lamar County, MS (near Hattiesburg) as do their children and grandchildren.

My family is from Alabama. I personally am 1/16th creek indian. Our families probably have some cross in them. I would love to hear from you to see if you have similar ties.

My great great grandmother was Susanne Rebecca Yawn who was a full blood indian. She lived in south Georgia near Alapaha, GA. Married Henry Rowe who died in 1924. She died in 1921. Their children were Johnny, Henry, Drew, Irvin, James E., Gordon, Benjamin, Annie, and Charlie W., my great grandfather. Rebecca Yawn was listed on the Dawes Roll as full blood, half cherokee and half creek. She is also listed on the Eastern Creek Roll as well. I have family photos of my great grandfather but none of the generation back. Would love to hear your story. The Rowe side was mostly Cherokee having settled in South Georgia during the 1810's as well as the Harper's. We are kin to some of the Creeks in Oklahoma near Wewoka and Muscogee. I know from tradition that the family was living in and near Alapaha, Ga. A backwater town that was full of mixed blood indians. Also, some Yawns came from Quincy, FL as well. Supposedly, there was a stomp ground still going on there in the 1920's led by the Yawn family.

Are any of your Yawns from Georgia? My connections is through my great great grandmother, Susanne Rebecca Yawn who was half Creek and half Cherokee. She appears on the Dawes Roll and Eastern Creek Rolls from the late 1800s. Any information or leads would help.
