Anyone out there - Yavners?

Anyone out there - Yavners?

Researching Fannie (or Feiga) Yavner (1852-1928), father was Mayer Yavner, husband was Abraham Benjamin. Fannie & family immigrated in 1903 and settled in Chicago. I always heard about Boston Yavner cousins, but don't know details.

Love to fill in the blanks with you. I don't know the tie to Chicago, but I DO know the Boston Yavners. I am also trying to tie the Hartford and Norfolk Virginia Yavners together with Boston. I heard rumors of 11 siblings, but we only have 7. This site will help you...http://genforum.genealogy.com/yavner/

Hi - I think I had found that exact thread while googling around for Yavner information. I really wonder if my Fannie/Feiga is one of those siblings you are missing. Her dates would fit. Of course I wish I had asked my grandfather more about the Boston Yavners. I never heard him talk about CT or VA Yavners, that I recall, but it was a long time ago!

Hi again -

I am looking through an old family tree my grandfather and his cousins made in the 1990s. It has lots of commentary, and each time I look I find something new.

So here's a notation I hadn't noticed before that my g-g-grandmother Feiga (Fannie) Yavner Benjamin had a brother named David Yavner, married to Fanny Rosenberg, who had 8 children!

I think we've found one of your missing Yavner siblings.....

11 total of Fannie and David's sibling group? Unfortunately, there isn't any more info about Fannie's line on the document, which is mostly focusing on Fannie's husband Sam (Sheftel) Benjamin and his lineage. My grandfather was their grandson.

The note indicates the information about Fannie and David being siblings came from a "Mel Yavner" who communicated with one of my grandfather's cousins.

Another cousin who worked hard on putting this document together has unfortunately passed away. So tantalizing when the information is just out of reach.

But I'm glad I noticed this little detail because I had been hoping to connect Fannie to other Yavner lines, and suspected she belonged with David and his siblings.

I remember meeting some "Yavner cousins" living in Boston, perhaps when I was in college there (20 years ago!), but I can't for the life of me remember any details of who they were.

I will try to scan some relevant pages of what I have and post them.

Thanks!
Diana

I'm sorry I didn't see this before but Suzanne did make me aware of the family connection between us Boston Yavners and the Chicago branch.

David Yavner was my great-grandfather. Suzanne and I have shared a lot of info over the last couple of years and a lot of pictures as well. Your recent upload of Simon Yavner's headstone is actually my handiwork (and my wet rump).

The Mel Yavner you refer to was my Dad's first cousin. Met him a number of times at family functions. A grandson of David's.

As to the missing links, not sure that we are likely to ever locate the balance. The CT/NJ/VA Yavner branch, I suspect, goes back one more generation prior to Aaron (Aryeh) Meyer Yavner. In all the researching I have done to date, I don't think I have run across a Yavner that was not related to us unless the Census Bureau couldn't spell. There is a large contingent of Yavners still in the Tidewater area of VA and some in the Baltimore area. They are descendents of Julius Yavner and Mollie (Yavner) Brooks.

I am most happy to supply you any info I can and photos as well. I have even been known to obtain photos on request if you had any family members in Boston.

Welcome to the family!!

Hi Scott - thanks for your note! I'm glad we could at least fill in a few missing pieces here. I still need to scan in that family tree document I have!

Love to see the family tree document when you get the chance. Sorry you don't recall the Yavners that you met here in Boston. I met all of David's children with the exception of my own grandmother who died before I was born. Don't hear from or see any of them with one or two exceptions with whom I have had a little contact in the last couple of years. Suzanne's family (Simon Yavner) I knew nothing about but my father was never one for talk about family. There were 2 sisters that lived in Boston and I have never met or had any contact with either of those branches - Fruma Yavner Kaplan or Cherna(Bessie) Yavner Wolf.

Maybe some day someone will put together a family gathering of all of the Yavners

Good luck in your continued research.

Scott

Hi again - I have finally scanned this Benjamin family tree that a number of my grandfather's cousins put together in the 1990s.

On the very last page is a notation regarding my g-g-grandmother Feiga Yavner Benjamin and her brother David Yavner.

Ancestry doesn't allow PDF attachments on the message boards , but you should be able to view the file here:

Hope you're well!
