It's interesting you asked that.
My grandfather's grandmother was Talulah
Yaun, who lived in the Aiken, S.C.-Augusta,
GA area. Her father, (G.A.E. Yaun) fought
and died in the Civil War (to roughly date
her). My grandfather always thought she
was part Cherokee.

I am looking for any other information on
this family.

Can't help you on Hall side but can go back two generations on Sullivan side. Do know Mary Etta had 18 children with John Darling Sullivan. Have lots of info on these and later generations. Let me know if you need info.?

Gary, in referance to your letter, about mary etta hall, she was my great grandmother. my grand mother emma is the last surviving child of that union. My grandmother states that her mother only had 16 children and two of them died at an early age,she also says that her fathers name was john daniel sullivan, not darling. Although on his grave it doesnt say, it only has a D. emma is 97 but she is still alert. Who did you get your info from? could you please send what you have, if possible. thank you very much, emma was only about seven when her father died in 1910. she was born in 1903. sandra connors woppman@cyberstreet.com

On your question of spelling, in my family we have connections with Yaun, Yawn, Yon, Yonn, and Yohn. We trace our line farthest back to Nicholas Yon of SC, but I have seen his name spelled Yohn, Yon, Yonn, and Yau. (Yes, I left the final "n" off on purpose! Don't know if that was a mistake on the record where I saw it.) I spell the name Yawn, but I have cousins who spell it Yaun. The story goes that my great grandfather originally spelled it Yaun, but when he ran for the GA legislature, he changed it to Yawn to attract the votes of other relatives who spelled it that way!
