I am looking for anyone with info on this last name. My gggrand mother came over from slovakia, with her sister. Her last name was either Yastco or Hamajady. They came over in the late 1800's. The only thing I knew is that her sister owned the property were the Empire state building sits today.

Susan, I believe you are the person I met in the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, PA a few months ago. I lost your email address, so I thought I'd post this on the message board. I was doing research there today came across the following info:

Marriage Licenses:
Silverius J. ZOLINAS of Pittsburgh and
Margaret D. YASKO of Pittsburgh.
(Source: Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Tuesday,
July 15, 1941)

Hope this is helpful to someone. Good luck in your research.

Cordially,

Hello,
My grandmother has a maiden name of Yatko. She was born in Prague in 1908. Are there any spelling variations of Yatsko that include Yatko? She still lives in Northampton County, PA.

I saw your message saying that your maiden name was Yatsko. My maiden name was also Yatsko. What part of the country are you from? I grew up in Indiana. I always heard from great aunts and uncles that there were many Yatsko's who settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area and there was a street somewhere in Ohio named Yatsko St. I don't know if it was true or just some of their old stories.

I can substantiate M. Barnes' reply of 9-1-00 about Yatskos in Cleveland. My friend was a Yatsko in Willowick (Cleveland area) in the 60s and 70s. Heavy eastern European influence in Cleveland; you should follow this.

I saw the message to my aunt Margaret

My grandfather was named Paul Yatsco.
They settled in the Weir Valley (Weirton)
West Va. around 1890-1910.
A correspondent in Slovakia said that the
original Slovak name was probably Jacob,
Jacoby, Jacco, etc.
