My mother's maiden name is "Yatsko" and her parents names were Yatsko, however the original name was "Jacko" of which I did find on baptism record for her. They were Slovack and settled in Mingo Junction, Ohio.

My great-grandmother was Elizabeth Harnagy/Harnagzy/Hamajady Yatsko. Her husband was Vendel/Vendal Yatsko. They moved to Indiana in the early 1890s. Perhaps there is a connection? I have no other information; am currently researching this.

My grandmother and grandfather (Emil and Anne Yacko) also lived in Yonkers, NY. My grandfather's brother was John Yacko. With a last name like Yacko and being from the same city, they must be related. I, likewise, was told that the name was shortened from Yatsko, although I imaging that at some point in time it was even longer. What info do you have on your family tree? Does the name Emil come up? Probably born around 1902; now deceased.

Hello,
My grandfather, Vincent Yacko, born 1879, came from Spishek, Slovakia, died 06/18/1961. Married Marie Novotny, from Austria-Hungary, born 08/13/1884. D 12/24/1954 and had 8 children. They settled in Manown, PA (along the Mononghahela (???) River. He was a coal miner. Two children died, Andrew Yacko and Catherine Anne Yacko in PA. Then moved to Yonkers, NY where he had relatives, brothers. He never spoke English, his daughter, my mother, Anne Yacko Connors, had to interpret for myself and siblings. There are various spellings of the last name, i.e. Yacko, Yaco, Jacko, Yatsko (thats how my mother pronounced Yacko). Please keep me posted if you find out anything. I also have very little info on the Yacko side. Thanks Loretta Connors Hoar
