Your surname sounds simular to ours. Yashinski which was later changed to Jasinski. Originally from Austria but were from Poland on all records. They came over about 1902. Settled in Lorain, Ohio. Any relation?

I just saw the Yashinski name in your message and was wondering if they could have been in western Pa.
My G grandfather was Francis Yashinski and he married Tekla (Tillie) Dloniak They lived in Pa all of their lives as far as I know.

I don't know that the grandfather from this family settled in PA. before coming to Lorain, Ohio but he did come here to work at the steel mill. This was Andrew and he has a son Francis {Frank} Joseph Jasinski. He is in the VA. home in Sandusky. His brother, Dominic, has the last name Yashinski on his birth certificate but we have papers where the name was changed legally to Jasinski. He arrived about 1907. His wifes maiden name was Wasnak; Wasniak? We have been told there is a grave site near Pitts. with that last name. I cannot find any passanger records but I know that he had to keep appling for a green card up until his death. I always thought it possable that they could have come thru PA. His wife's name was Anna and the children , all born here, are Andrew, Dominic, Francis, John, Katherine, Stephanie, Stanley and Rose. There is the surname Basaga listed for Annas maiden name besides Wasnak. But she was married in Poland to someone else who had passed away before she married Andrew Jasinski. So we don't know which name is her real maiden name. She left several children in Poland when she came to the states. Records show they were Polish living under Austrian rule. Let me know what info you have found for your family so we can try to match things up. momjasinski@adelphia.net ; Jean

Everything we have exchanged are so similar it sounds like we could have a connection; even though it may only be a distant cousin or your gggrandfathers nephew.. I do know that the family said that Andrew came to America to work at the Mill. Now whether that means this steel mill or a different one I don't know.He could have originally been sponcered by a relative and lived with them for a short time since he came over after the dates you gave.. Andrew was born DEC.14, 1879 and died March 1967. He sent for his wife after he was settled here. Her last name, WASNIAK, is so similar to DIONIAK! Pronounced in Polish by someone who couldn't spell could make these 2 names sound similar. But I haven't been able to trace back any farther than Andrew. If only we could match up a relative we could have in common in Poland! Are there any immigration records or family passes that you have found? Thanks for responding; Jean
