I am descended from the Yaple(s) in Delaware County, NY, as I believe the Erie Yaples are also. I live in Springboro, Crawford Co, PA. The farthest I can go is to my great great grandfather, Smith Yaple(s), have seen it both ways on census records, in Andes, Delaware, NY. He was married to Mary Ann Scott, somewhere shortly before 1837, as in 1840 the census shows him in Andes as at least 20 but not yet 30, the same for his wife, and a daughter under 5. From following census, I know that the daughter was born about 1837 and her name was Jane E. Yaple. In every census he is listed as first name of Smith, but I wonder if that was actually a middle name maybe. Also, maybe his mother's maiden name was Smith. I just have not been able to connect him to any siblings or parents yet. Would ALL who have any Yaple, Yaples, Yeaple, Yeaples connections please check to see if there might be a Smith or Scott connection around that time period? Figuring he must have been born between 1810 and 1820. Other children of Smith and Mary Ann Yaples were: Jane E., William H., Marcus, Margaret M., Sylvester L., Ira, Amanda, and George Yaple(s). We have found info to indicate that both William and Marcus died in the Civil War. In 1840 the family was listed in Andes, Delaware, NY. In 1850 they show up in Colchester, Delaware, NY. In 1855 and 1860 they are on Andes, Delaware, NY. I have not located them ANYWHERE yet in 1870. In 1880 Mary Ann Yaples is listed as a widow with her two sons Sylvester 30, and George 23, in Carrollton, Cattaraugus, NY. Do you happen to have anything that might concern any of these people?

swanweaver@adelphia.netI have been searching over 20 years for this link. The internet certainly makes things much easier by letting us communicate with so many others who just may have the information we need. I have no clue as to who Jane, Margaret, and Amanda might have married. I can only hope that someone who has a connection to them might see my messages. My grandfather was Orange Kimball Yeaples, probably Yaples at birth. He had a cousin, Ernest Yeaples, who I think may have been a son of George. Ernie's daughter said that his mother died young of diptheria. Ernie had a brother, Joseph. Ernie was raised by family, possibly on his mother's side, in Steuben County, NY. He never heard of his brother again. The boys were somewhere around 9 to ll maybe at the time. Ernie was born Oct 19, 1884 and died Oct 11, 1947. He was married to Hazel, I don't know her maiden name. They had a son Kenneth, born Jun 4, 1935, died Apr 27, 1996. Also, a daughter, Josephine, still living.
At the courthouse in Smethport, McKean County, PA, which is in the area where my grandparents eventually ended up, I found a Maria Yaples, white, female, age 31 years, married, housekeeper, born at Campbell, Steuben Co., NY, died Feb 1895 at Crosby, Norwich, McKean, PA. Cause of death, diptheria. I really believe that this is Ernie's mother, but cannot at this time prove it.
Ernie's daughter gave me some information from the Family Bible. It listed Smith Yaples - 69 when he died, but no dates. Mary M. Yaples - born Apr 20, could not read the year, died at age 77 in 1890. William M. (or H.) Yaples, born Sep 15, 1840, died age 24. Mar?as Yaples - born Apr 6, 1863, died - 19 years, 7 months, 20 days. I have found in the Civil War records that Marcus Yaples died on Apr 6, 1863, so I think the date she gave me was his death instead of his birth. Online Images, Civil War Pensions, listed Mareus (Marcus) and his mother, Mary Ann Yaples was beneficiary.
She had mentioned a possibility of the name Cooper for a relative. In the Bible there was a receipt "of A. Cooper, in full for taxes, 1889, Painted Post. In census records for 1900 I found in Erwin Township, Steuben, NY, an Alfred Cooper, 50, born June 1849 and his wife Mary, 40, born 1857. There was also listed in their household, Earnest Yaples, boarder, 13, born Feb 1887. I believe this might very well be the Ernie in my family. The one thing I am sure of is that census records and their dates do NOT always make sense.
I realize that this has become quite lengthy, but I think the only way I am going to find what I am looking for is to give any and all detail that I have and hope that someone recognizes something in it.
Thank you so much and I am looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help my search.
