CAMPBELL, OH - Private family services were held at the Wasko Funeral Home for Betty A. Tomko, 83, who passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at her home, after a short illness.
Betty was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) the daughter of Martin and Anna Krayach Yaniglos, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Campbell Memorial High School and went on to graduate from the Cleveland School of Nursing in 1952, at the age of 21.
She was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church, the Jednota, and the First Catholic Slovak Union.
Betty worked in various hospitals and nursing homes and was very proud of her nursing profession for nearly 64 years, and continued to renew her nursing license, even after her retirement.
She enjoyed picnics at Strossmayer Croatian Picnic grounds; and listening to polka music.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of over 60 years, Joseph C. Tomko, whom she married April 15, 1955; her sons, Carl (Anne) Tomko of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Thomas M. Tomko of Lowellville and Theodore M. Tomko and family of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Barbara (Charles) Houck of Boardman; a grandson, Tyler Tomko; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Stella Klaiban, Helen Yaniglos and Rose Yaniglos; and brothers John, Martin and Mike Yaniglos and Julius Krayach. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Healthridge Medical of Campbell, the Visiting Angels, HM Home Health Care and Hospice of the Valley. Also the family wishes to take this opportunity to thank those close friends who were there for Betty and her family with their show of support, love and caring during this difficult time.
