Thomas "Tom" Warren Yancy, 45, of Jackson, died Thursday, January 15, 2004 at his home. He was born December 30, 1958 in Memphis, the son of Jesse Yancy Jr. and Barbara Young Yancy. A journalist, he graduated from Bruce High School in 1976. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in journalism. During his scholastic career, he was the recipient of many awards and scholarships. His professional career included work with various publications and news services across the country, including assignments in Washington, D.C. and on Capitol Hill. He was an avid collector of Mississippiana, a connoisseur of the arts, and a celebrated bon vivant. Funeral service was Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bruce United Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Wilburn officiating. Burial was in Bruce Cemetery. Parker Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Bob Cooper, Bill Cooper, Sherman Cooper, Joey Grist, Jere Allen, Rusty Faulkner, Gary Edwards, and Richard Young. Survivors include one sister, Cindy Yancy, Jackson; one brother, Lee Yancy, Jackson; one uncle, James Young, Ft. Walton Beach, FL; one aunt, Diana Young, Clinton; his cousins, Bill Cooper and Bob Cooper, both of Bruce, as well as other family members.
