Benjamin F. Yancey Jr.
Benjamin Franklin Yancey Jr., 73, of Charleston, WV died from injuries sustained in a fall outside his home on April 8, 2001.
Born in Bluefield on December 22, 1927, he was a graduate of the Citadel and West Virginia University Law School, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He began his career as a practicing attorney in Bluefield. He was elected to the House of Delegates in Mercer Co., then worked for the Attorney General's Office for eight years before entering private practice in Charleston.
He was preceded in death by stepson, James Albert Greene and sister, Freda Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Suzan Yancey; son, Benjamin Franklin Yancey III of Charleston; stepson, Charles Roba Greene of Charleston; sisters, Virginia Hurd of Savanna, Ga., Ruth Frances of Bluefield and Jane Yancey of Bluefield; and granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Greene of Big Otter.
The family will receive friends at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral service begins.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Heidt officiating..
