Charlie W. Yancey
Newberg resident Charlie William Yancey died Feb. 18, 2006, at Newberg Care Home. He was 94.
He was born Oct. 16, 1911, to J.S. and Emma (Glaspy) Yancey in Ada, Okla. He was raised and educated in Oklahoma. He moved to Oregon in 1935 and settled in Albany, where he worked for many years for the U.S. Bureau of Mines. He moved to Newberg in 1988.
He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, rock collecting and gardening. He was a member of the Newberg Church of God.
Survivors include: wife Vivian of Newberg; sons, Charlie of Medford, Robert of Lebanon and Gary of Bend; stepsons, Vincent Cook and Wayne Cook, both of Newberg; sister Dora Pierce of Yercha, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice, in 1983, brother Frank and sister Dora.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at River Street Church of God with Pastor Ron Palmer officiating. Burial is at Fir Crest Cemetery in Monmouth.
