Margie Marie Yancey, 77, former Springfield resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Nixa, MO, where she had lived for several years. Margie was born March 17, 1927, near Arkadelphia, AR, youngest of four children of Wallace and Altha Yancey. Margie lived some years with grandparents in Jericho Springs, MO, and graduated eighth grade there. Her granddad shared his talent by teaching Margie the violin. She played violin numbers at special events, always loving her violin, singing, dancing and hearing music. After high school graduation from John Brown University H.S., Siloam Springs, Margie worked in Joplin then Kansas City for Bell Telephone Co. She served in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Air Station in the early 1950s then returned to work as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Margie resided with her parents, Altha and Filmore Davis in Pindall and Harrison, prior to moving to Springfield. With her clear soprano voice and natural ability to carry the melody, harmonize and stay on key, music directors invited her talent wherever she lived and attended church including Jefferson Avenue Baptist. Survivors are brother Gene Davis and wife Helen, Harrison, AR, their sons, Keith Taylor and wife Vickie, and Mitch Taylor and wife Bernie, Vacaville, CA; sister Irene Davis Benjamin and husband Don of Indiana; and sister-inlaw Elzene Yancey, Mtn.
