I am researcing Ellen Yancer (b. 1857 NY, d 1937) married Peter Hammersmith. Ellen's parents were Peter Yancer and Catherine Brauer, born in Bavaria. Ellen's siblings were Adam (last name spelled Yantzer in 1910 US Census living in Bronx, NY), Eva, Margaret, and Mary. Any information on the Yancer family in NY (especially NYC) would be of interest to me.

Surnames: Yancer/Hammersmith/Hammerschmidt
Hi, I'm a descendant of Peter Hammersmith by way of Phoebe Hammersmith and William P. Hughes. I have a copy of the marriage license of Phoebe/Phebe/Phebia Hammersmith (the name was originally Hammerschmidt and sometimes spelled Hamerschmidt) certificate number 114 for their marriage on December 28, 1904 in Brooklyn. The marriage certificate lists Phoebe Hammersmith's parents as Ellen Yancer and Peter Hammersmith.

Did you have any luck with your search? What is your source for Ellen Yancer's parents? Regards, MHB

Hi Smbick,

I believe you are my first cousin who have not seen since I was a year old. Please contact me offline at christine_hughes@verizon.net if you want to follow up on some interesting genealogy. I am now a registered guest here on Ancestry.com and do not presently have a subscription. Very surprised to get a reply to my 2008 post!
