Steven Ken Yamamoto passed away on September 30, 2003. He was born on December 31, 1949, the son of Rae and Saburo Yamamoto. Steve graduated from San Diego State University and earned his teaching credential at the College of Notre Dame in Belmont. He spent 28 years at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, where he taught math, science, also coaching swimming and water polo. He was twice named CCS Honor Coach (in 1990 and 1993) and was the California Coaches Assoc. Girls Swim Coach of the Year in 1992. Liz Rehrmann, a 1994 St. Francis grad on Steve ' s varsity swim team for four years recalls "He taught us how to be a team and swim with heart." Liz recalled the first CCS championship in more than a decade. "Ladies, this is it," she remembers her coach telling her and her teammates near the end of the final meet that season. He ' d given each of the swimmers a yellow rose for good luck. As his team rushed toward him after clinching the championship, he ' d grinned before being pushed into the pool." Steve ' s passion was coaching and was extremely well liked by his students. Steve will be deeply missed by his sister, Janice, his aunts, uncles and several cousins. Memorial services were held in Mountain View, on October 10. Burial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 22, at Greenwood Memorial Park.
