Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
I'm researching Drane but in the 1881 Norwich census came across Walter Drane born Norwich @ 1818, living with his daughter Caroline R. born Norwich @1851 married to William YALLOP born @1847 Yoxford Suffolk. William & Caroline have a family. Caroline is the sister of my g.g.grandfather. Does this help anyone or would you like more info?

Re: Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
Thankyou Kate. If you have a few minutes, I would apprecite knowing how you go about getting hold of the cencus information for England from Say early 1700's to mid 1800's. Can this info be accessed on the net? drane@austarnet.com.au. Much appreciated. Jennifer Drane. I am in Australia.

Re: Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
I've only just started into family research but I was told on my family history course that the earliest UK census was 1841, that is only available in local county records offices (for that area), LDS centres & London. Apparently it is very difficult to read. The 1881 UK census can be bought on CD Roms (@£30) from the LDS. The 1901 UK census is being tested online at the moment, its a pay service and available only between 9am-7pm uk time. I have used LDS and FReeBMD extensively to get my genealogy information - but FreeBMD only covers 1837 - 1901. When civil registration of b,m & d's were required.

Thanks very much Kate. I have found the bit of census stuff I have accessed has been difficult to read and to decipher.
Thanks for your suggestions and assistance, and good hunting!!

Re: Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
I would like more information on the Yallop family. I have William Yallop m Frances Halliday in the Mundham, Norfolk area. There may be a possibility of a Caroline being in this family. If you have any other information on the Yallop's I would be grateful.

My great/great grandmother was Frances Halliday b 1818 in Virginia, d 5/2/1879 Ohio - father was Lexander Halliday, mother was Frances Jean Vob Schritz. She married Edmund Howell and had about 12 children in Meigs County, Ohio. Don't know if this fits into your situation. Let me know.

Re: Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
I know that this thread is now many years old but by sheer coincidence I just read this thread following searching parish records earlier today for my Yallop links during which I spotted and made note that:- William Yallop (St Margaret, Ware, Hants) married Caroline Rebecca Drane in Parish of St Giles Norwich 26.7.1869. The thing that 'jumped out' at me - the occupation of Caroline's father was 'A Lamplighter' - Very Dickensian isn't it? They had at least 6 children (St Giles baptism dates) - William Arthur (5.1.1873) b.10.11.1872, Walter Charles (3.1.1875) b.15.11.1874, Amelia Sarah (4.6.1876) b.27.4.1876, Rosa (6.7.1879) b.5.6.1879, Sydney Frederick (7.11.1880), Lewis John (3.4.1884), Amelia Caroline Rebecca (23.7.1884) b.28.12.1883
So sorry if this is years late but it may be of interest to someone!
I was actually searching to find the William, father of Sir John Harrison Yallop, as I have big doubts that it was the William 1830-1864 of Barsham, Suffolk as posted elsewhere. Perhaps I should start a current thread on this topic.
Mike.

Re: Yallop/Drane Family Norwich & area
This definitely of interest - I started the thread under an old name! Thanks. I thought William had been born in Yoxford, Suffolk so this gives a new direction to check. Carolines dad (born 1818 in Norwich) alternatively gave his occupation as "Gas Lighter" and finally retired as a "Gas Fitter". There were a number of friends and family who followed in his tracks working for(and doing apprenticeships with) the London Gas and Light Company. Thanks again - if I can help with your research please let me know.
