Yakaitis ancestry

Surnames: Yakaitis
My maternal Grand mother's maiden name was Drizis. She was born in Lithuania and immigrated to the United States, Wilkes-Barre, PA area in 1911. I have discovered a few old photographs of 2 of her cousins also living in America. They are Ludwig and (unknown) Yakaitis brothers. In one photo the 2 brothers are both in WW I uniforms (1917-1918). So, if you are looking for Yakaitis ancestors perhaps you can get valuable information by checking the WW I, US Army draft and service records. Unfortunately, I have no additional information on the Yakaitis brothers or no idea how our 2 families were connected. If interested, perhaps I could email you their picture.

I know this is an old question (being from 2005) but I think the picture is of my Great-Grandpa Tadas Yakaitis and his Brother. If you could send me a scanned image of the photo I can confirm if it is them. I believe I have the same photo. I don't know how the familys would be connected but this could be a good start.

Hello,

Yes, it's been a long time since I posted the Yakaitis message. You are my first and only reply to my email. I will be happy to email a copy of the picture but I'll need an email address to do that.

I am going to attempt to attach my Yakaitis brother's picture to this message. I've never tried attaching something to an Ancestry message. Here goes ....

Julia,

Yes that picture is of my Great Grandfather and his brother. My Great-Grandfather (Tadas or Thadaus) is the one on the right and his brother (Louie or Ludwig) is the one sitting. I have two similar photos from the same photo shoot. The first one is of both of them standing and the other one is of just my Great-Grandfather. My mother has the one of just my Great-Grandfather but I have the other and I will scan it and send you a copy of it. If you send me your email it would be easier to send. My email is paslode235@hotmail.com.

The thing I am very curious about is how our family's are related. I asked my Grandmother (Tadas's daughter) and she has no idea how the family's are related. She is thinking that your family is related to one of her fathers brothers.

I believe it would be easier to keep this conversation going via email, I hope this will work for you.

Thanks you so much!

Steve Bieniek

Hello Julia,

I just noticed your post on Ancestry. I realize it has been a couple years, but my grandfather's stepfather was Joseph Yakaitis, I was curious if you had any more information on the Yakaitis'?

Thank you,
Mike Wintermantel

To Mike: Sorry Mike; as I said in earlier messages, I don't know anything else about the Yakaitis family. All I know is my Mother's Mother (Veronica Drizys) immigrated from Lithuania in 1911 to the Wilkes-Barre, Pa area. Her father was Francisko Drizys and her mother was Rosalia Adamaitis. They lived in Zibartuonise, Krakenavos, Lithuania. I have a suspicion that some how the Yakaitis and Adamaitis families are related. Perhaps Rosalia had a sister who married a Yakaitis. I also know that the Yakaitis relatives settled and lived in the Chicago area; and there were Adamaitis relatives also living in the Chicago area. I have a WWI photo of Ludwig and Thadeus Yakaitis; it was in my grandmother's possessions with the annotation "cousins' Yakaitis." That's not much to go on but, perhaps you can look for family of Joseph Yakaitis in the Chicago, Illinois area. Good Luck.
