is there a first name? I have a few on my tree. Joseph(1853)& Esther(1862) (Widrewitz/Jaffe) had 8 children Lena, Irving, Al, Sol, David, Benjamin, Jenny, and(?)... My great-grandfather was Irving who married Lillian Rosenthal and had 3 children: Gladys (Livingston), Joyce (Nappen), Buddy Jaffe. Joyce is my late grandmother.
Hopefully, this helps with your findings.

He went by Charles, born 1863. Could have been Karel at a guess; could have been from Vilnius/Vilna Lithuania? Yes they were Jewish, settled in Chicago, or rather Proviso. A son Louis became a Cook County Judge. There was a son Joseph born 1902 so maybe your Joseph was an elder brother to Charles?
