Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
The 1964 history of Redwood County, Minnesota, mentions a Louis Yackel, originally from Lamberton, who was an opera singer and "joined the American Opera company in the 1920's." So far in my research I've come across one Louis Yackel, but he died in Kansas City in 1907 and was buried in Lamberton. Does anyone have information on the Louis Yackel, opera singer?

Re: Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
That Louis Yackel was my Grandfather and he did die in 1907 in Kansas City, MO as a result of throat surgery. My Uncle Louis, his son, was also an opera singer in the 1930`s in Los Angeles, CA. My Grandfather Louis Yackel married Adina S Roth on 03-19-1885 in Sanborn MN. There were 11 children as the result of that marriage. My Father was Arthur John Yackel. Some of my Uncles changed the spelling of the name to Yaeckel when they moved to California in the 1930`s. My email is: muggs22@msn.com and I would be most interested in exchanging information with you. Margaret

Re: Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
I have been doing my family history and have found that the "Louis" Yackel you are speaking of is son of Sophia Wilhelmina Barbara Wagner and son of John Peter Henry Yackel. His full name was Leonard Ludwig (Louis) Yackel born 1897 and died 1968. He was married to Thelma McDaniel. He was born in Lamberton, but died in Redwood Falls.

Re: Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
In the 1930 census Louis W. Yaeckel, age 28, was living in Los Angeles with his brother Arno. His occupation was listed as "singer - opera company." This Louis was the son of Louis Yackel (or Yaeckel) and Adina Roth. In the same census Leonard Yackel, age 32, was living in Redwood Falls with his wife Thelma and three children. His occupation was listed as "repairman - radios." Here is the obit for Leonard L. Yackel: Leonard L. Yackel, 71, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday at the Redwood Falls hospital where he had been a patient for eight days. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran church in Redwood Falls with burial in Redwood City Cemetery. L. Yackel was born Jan. 21, 1897 in Charlestown township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Yackel. He married Thelma McDaniel June 23, 1923 in Spencer, Ind. The couple farmed near Lamberton from 1924 to 1930, then moved to Redwood where he owned and operated the Yackel radio and TV shop until he became ill a couple of months ago. Surviving are his wife, children: Mrs. Shirley Hall of Nashville, Tenn., Orland and Eugene both of Redwood Falls, Maurice O. of Sacramento, Calif; also 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Mrs. Anna Hahn, Mrs. Ida Hulett, Mrs. John Maus of Redwood Falls, John of Lamberton and Edward of Rochester, N.Y.
Are you related to the Wagner side of Leonard's family? If so, we could exchange Wagner information.

Re: Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
Louis Yackel was my Grandfather. He was born in Harmon, Dodge, Wisconsin on 22-Jan-1861. He died in Kansas City, Missouri on 18-Nov-1907.
He was the son of Peter John Joeckel, born in Brandenburg,Bavaria, Germany on 19-Aug-1835 and died in California on 19-May-1915.
My Fathers name was Arthur John Yackel. He is the son of Louis Yackel.
This Louis Yackel was in Kansas City when he died, because he had gone there for treatment of throat cancer, and was buried in Lamberton, Minnesota in 1907.
In my Fathers family there were 4 girls (one of my Fathers sisters) was named Margaret Ann and she drowned in 1909 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. There were 9 boys, one of which was my Father, and a son Louis named after his Father who died in 1907. This Louis was also an Opera singer. He never married and lived most of his life in California where he died in El Centro, Imperial, California in Dec of 1974.
I am named after my Fathers sister who drowned in 1909 and I was born and raised in Minnesota. I married there and we moved to California in 1962. We had 5 children who are all living but my husband died in Nov-2003. We had been divorced since the 1970's. I am now resididing in Temecula, CA.
I have been researching my Fathers family and my Mothers family for over 5 years now. My Mother came from a large (12 children) family also.
All my Aunts and Uncles on both sides of my family are now deceaced and my Sister and I are the only remaining members of my Father and Mothers children, of which there were 5. A brother died during the great flu epidemic after WW I.
A brother and sister of the lst Louis Yackel, married a sister and brother of the Wagner family, so there is a connection there.
The Yackel family has never been well documented as the spelling of the last name went from Joeckel, to Yackel and some of the California residents use the spelling of Yaeckel. Also, I have come across Jaeckel in Germany.
Going back to my Great Great Grandfather, I have discovered he had 3 wives and some of the Texas Yackels may be related to me too, but I can not find when or if my GGGrandfather Peter John Joeckel ever lived there.

Re: Louis Yackel, opera singer, Redwood County, Minnesota
The Marshall, Texas Yakel families (Yes, yet another spelling) That I know about have a connection to the Dahmer family and were brothers named Henry, Charles, and Herman. If any of that matches your info post me and I will give you the details of their lives in Marshall.
Thanks! Dale Cook
