Finding my wife's relatives
My wife was born in Devon, England 21-8-46. She was given up for adoption as we believe her mother was unmarried. My wife would like to know if she has any living relatives. Thank you.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
Thank you for responding to my request. The reason I have not replied for three years is that my wife has been rather ill and not in a fit state to deal with the stress that the search for her blood relations was causing her. We stopped looking. However Jan is now recovered and wants to begin the search again. If you can help thank you very much.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
my grandfather, gilbert yack, is supposed to have fathered a child at the end of wwII in england...near as i can tell, the woman's name was dorothy in devon or devonshire. but thru the info i've read, it appears he married her to give the baby his name.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
Hi, Thank you so much for your reply. The name of the lady in question was Dorothy Joan Hill (maiden name) I am of the strong opinion that Dorothy was the mother of my wife as the mothers name listed on my wife's birth certificate is Dorothy Joan Yack nee Hill. No fathers name is listed. Dorothy married a Gilbert Arthur Yack in 1945 in Devon and a child Judith A Yack was born in Devon 1945 sometime between April and June. I have found a record for Judith Yack marrying a Rex A Edwards in 1965 also in Devon. My wife was born in August 1946 in Devon and was given the name of Jennifer Yack. She has never met, to her knowledge her birth mother or father or any other blood relatives, she was adopted at the age of two.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
i guess i'm not following...if judith was born in 1945 and jennifer wasn't born until 1946, how are they connected?

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
We think they had the same mother; Dorothy Joan Yack nee Hill.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
ah...gotchya. you don't believe they have the same father since she still apparently went be "yack"?

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
I believe that Judith and Jennifer have the same father Gilbert Yack. The circumstantial evidence, at present, is pointing towards Gilbert Yack. Do you know when Gilbert returned to the USA from England after the war?
Thanks for your time and trouble.

Re: Finding my wife's relatives
it's hazy. the only one left that i know to ask doesn't have the same info i understood. he came back to the usa and divorced my grandmother so he could give his baby in england a last name. i never heard that he had another but he must've divorced the english woman at some point because he married another american woman and had another daughter. he later shot and injured his step daughter and wife then killed himself. they lived and he died. my step grandfather told me that the war had messed up his mind.
