I have been researching my daughter-in-law' ancestors and one of her
great great grandfathers was Julian Xiques born about 1866 in Cuba per
1900 and 1910 Census. I found him in the 1880 Census CD in 15th Ward,
29 district of New York City, Manhattan, age 17 born Cuba enumerated as
son with Ramon Xiques age 37 born Cuba, a segar (sic) maker and Jennie
Xiques age 17 born NY parents born France. There was another son Ramon
age 1 born NY.
Obviously Julian is not Jennie's son.
>From entries in the IGI of later children Jennie was Eugenie Leconec.
Now the interesting part. I find in the 1880 Census CD a Ramon Xiques
age 37 born Cuba, cigar manufacturer living in Richmond, Staten Island
NY with Louisa age 24 born NY parents born France and daughters Emily 4,
Jenny 2 and Josey 1. From extracted birth record for Jenny in the IGI,
Jennie is also a Lecornec.
Which scenario is more likely?
1. There were two Ramon Xiques age 37, cigar maker born Cuba living in
New York City.
2. The same man was married or living with two women, probably sisters.
3. Another logical explanation.
