Yes, let's definitely share emails!!! This is amazing! As I think that these replies may be posted on line, I will give you one of my side email addresses so mine doesn't go public. Respond to that one and then we can share our real email addresses. i am very much looking forward to this!
Of course i know about Ramona!! I would love to meet some of our other relatives. I have met a granddaughter of Nettie (Annette) and one of Louisa's great granddaughters. So let's see where to start. You are right. My grandfather Henry was married to Kitty (my grandmother). My mother is Henrietta, but everyone called her Chick. She was the oldest of their children. Viola died of a burst appendix when she was five years old. My grandfather owned a billiards "establishment" which my mother was never allowed to reveal to anyone as it was still considered a shady business! My Aunt Ev was named after your grandmother. Henry, my grandfather, was named after our great grandmother's Jennie's half sister Henrietta. Albert Le Cornec's first wife was Annette Le Bren. The family was from Brittany.
As for that pool hall, my mother used to work there on Saturdays (in the barbershop part of it!) with her grandmother Jennie (who called my mother Tinky. ) Jennie had nicknames for everyone.) Every single of her grandchildren whom I have spoken to absolutely adored her. Ramon was having yet another affair when he died (that's whom he left that brownstone to in his will) and Jennie let her visit him as he lay dying.
Jennie's mother was Anna Mercier Le Cornec. There were four children...two from the first marriage to Le Bren (Henrietta and Louisa) and then two of her own (Jennie, as she was called) and Albert. Osma lived in a shack in Staten Island. Jennie lived for a while in a convent (!) and started her affair with Ramon when she was 15 years old! My mother and I am sure that your mother as well went to visit her there. She only spoke French. The most amazing thing that has happened in this process is that when I did this research, about ten years ago, I talked to one of Louisa's grandchildren and when I said "Osma" she knew whom I meant! This woman also had an uncle (son of Louisa) who finally provided the verbal confirmation about Louisa and Jennie being sisters.
As for Joseph, I do think that your grandmother knew he was a half brother. Ramon's kids definitely knew about the other family and hated each other, other than Joseph who went back and forth between both families. But it was such a huge secret that I am sure that they never talked to anyone about it.
Your grandmother lived on the same street as Jennie, didn't she? Three of her children all lived together in Queens, after Jennie moved from her home (in Brooklyn).
I cant' wait to talk directly. Let's exchange phone numbers as well!
Looking forward to it! (I can't wait to see your photos. How do I access what is on line?)
