Iva Xander Iva Xander, 87, of Hillcrest Drive, Corry, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Millard Filmore Gates Circle Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y. Mrs. Xander was born April 10, 1921, in Salamanca, N.Y., a daughter of the late George and Linda Heidrich Zimmerman. She was raised and educated in Salamanca, where she graduated from Salamanca High School in 1939. Following high school, Mrs. Xander attended Westbrook Business Academy (Olean Business Institute) in Olean, N.Y. She then began employment at Eldred Munition Plant in Eldred and continued to work there during World War II. In 1951, Mrs. Xander moved to Corry and in 1952, her husband founded the Al Xander Co. in Corry. She helped her husband in the business until 1956, when her priorities were caring for and raising her family. Since 1979, she had enjoyed spending winters in Palm Harbor, Fla. She was a longtime member of the Corry Country Club. Mrs. Xander had also held memberships in the Dunedin Country Club in Dunedin, Fla., and the Tarpon Woods Golf and Country Club in Palm Harbor. While her children were young, Mrs. Xander had been very active in the Parent-Teacher Association in the school district. Mrs. Xander had also enjoyed golfing, boating, crocheting, quilting, needlepoint and traveling. She was an avid reader, and continually kept current with local and world events. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was dedicated to her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Xander, on Dec. 6, 2005. They were married Nov. 14, 1943, in Salamanca. Mrs. Xander was also preceded in death by two sisters, Reva Zimmerman and her twin sister, Eva Cameron; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Xander. She is survived by five sons, John Xander and Tom Xander and his wife, Candy, all of Corry, Gary Xander and his wife, Phyllis, of Erie, and Steve Xander and his wife, Suzanne, and Bert Xander and his wife, Sheila, all of Fairport, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry.
