Surnames: Wegandt, Wyant, Reinhardt
AS part of my research of my Wyant line there appears to be a dominant gene passed down making descendants vulnerable for developing autoimmune diseases including Rhumatoid Arthrits, Polymylgia Rheumatica, MS, Lupus, and Hayshimoto (thyroid), Graves (etc). This is in the family of the descendants of David Wyant and Barbara Reinhardt born about1753 or so.
David and Barbara were born in or near Weisenburg Township Northampton now Lihigh Pennsylvania. They then moved to Penn Township, then Fairfield Ohio. Descendants later moved to Seneca and Hancock counties Ohio by the mid 1800s. I do not have the Wyant line traced before David and I do not know if the gene came from the Wyant line or the Reinhardt line.

The gene may be dominant meaning half of the descendants will develop an autoimmune disease. Please respond if you think you may be related to this line or have information. I am trying to get help for our family. sperong@aol.com

Hello there,
My paternal grandmother was Elsie Maudie Wyant. Her father Alexander Douglas Wyant, Alexander Wyant, Burkett Wyant. My grannie Elsie had rheumatoid arthritis. When I was little I would get up on her bed and rub her legs. I was diagnosed with Auto Immune years ago. At first they ruled out Rheumatoid, but thought MS and finally 2 years ago I was diagnosed Psoriatic Arthritis. I have pictures posted of Elsie, Alexander on Ancestry.
Take care
Donna Lewis

It sounds like the same gene. it often begins in a way that is difficult to diagnose. I noticed the rash on my face in 1990 or so then it seemed to go from place to place. My arthritis has just been diagnosed but they are calling it Mixed Connective Tissue disease. It is different that other types as it presents in many forms but RA is most Common as is Yashimoto (Thyroid ). One person has been diagnosed with MS in the family. I have traced it back to the family of David Wyant born in Weisenburg LiHigh area of Penn or wife Barbara Reinhardt.
This is the line of my great grandmother Fannie, father Samuel, father Benjamin born 1818, Father Fredrick born 1790, father David born 1753..

I do not know where Burket fits in but I have often thought that an earlier Burket was a cousin as the families converged in Hancock County. Do you know if you connect with David?
Also have you contacted your siblings and cousins?
The incidence is 50% in our family at age 60 which would indicate a dominant gene. It manifests as many different autoimmune diseases. I have had the disease for many years yet it went undiagnosed or called "undifferentiated" for many years. My age is 62 and at 60 I got Polymylgia Rheumatica symptons which was also the diagnosis of two of my cousins.

My grandfather had RA and my great aunt PMR. I have cousins with MS, Lupus, Yashiimoto and Acromylgia plus others.

This is a very differnt disease that others. It can cause organ damage. It may be caused by malformation of the thyroid of parathyroid, which was identified in one cousin..

I am trying to find a doctor that will take this on and conduct a widespread research project. My e mail is sperong@aol.com. Two lines of David inherited this gene but it probably did not originate with him. Would love to know more about your line and how prevelent this is in your family. Again it often hits later in life, so check out the aunts, uncles and great aunts/uncles first. Also the gene seems to offer protection from cancer and many are long lived..on great uncle with the disease lived over 100..

Thank you for the information. I am still looking for Daivd Wyant and a connection. Johann Wendel Wiand/Wieand/Wyant came from Germany and settled in PA. It is interesting about the Yashiimoto. I was diagnosed with possibly with that . I eventually had pre cancerous lumps in my thyroid and had most of it removed. I am 61 now. In my 30's I had the diagnosis of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I just think that they really did not have a clue. I do not have the raging psoriasis like some, but I have always had sensitive skin. Two years ago I had a patch of psoriasis and finally found a rheumatologist that made the diagnosis. Stress really makes me itch. No cancer on the Wyant side. I will keep researching.
