I am searching for info on the Wubbena/Wabbena family of Woodford and Iroquois Counties in IL. My great grandmother was Kate Wabbena (married Henry Trill). On their marriage record, her parents are listed as Jaus Wubbena and Amke Sternberg. Kate was born in Minonk, Woodford County, on Sept. 19, 1869. She married in Iroquois Co., in 1888. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!

Teresa! =) It was great to have someone respond! I'm looking for pretty much anything. My great grandmother, was Kate Wabbena, born in Minonk (Woodford Co.), IL, in 1869. She is buried in Danforth (Iroquois Co.), with husband Henry Trill. There are also a few Wabbena headstones there, I'm assuming a possible brother, John. Kate's father is listed at Jaus Wubbena, and her mother is Amke Sternberg. This is all I know. I got their names from the marriage records in Iroquois County. I'd like to know where this family originated or any clues you might have.
Thanks!!

Any idea where this book regarding the ten tribes of Wubbena could be found. The Library of Congress had no help so I am stumped. My mother's name is Wubbena and I have traced her back 11 generations. I would love to see the information in this book. Many thanks.

Yes, My great, great gandfather was Gerjet Mensen Wubbena and earlier last year an aunt travelled to Germany to search out the families. She found a whole town full of them in Emden, Germany and also a town called Petkum. The whole town came out and they even wrote an article in their newspapers about the American family connection. As I understand it, the Wubbena's were very proud Frieslanders in an area now between Holland and Germany and considered themselves separate, much as the Swiss do not consider themselves Germans or Austrians. The name Wubbena is suppose to mean Friesian chieftain. Hope this helps. We thought we were the only Wubbena's in the States.

My great great grandfather was Gerjet Mensen Wubbena. I just checked out this site for the first time. If I can help locate the book/info. on the 10 tribes of Wubbena, I would be glad to help. If you are able to find the source for this book, please let me know, as my aunt has family connections in Germany where the families appear to have originated.

Was Gerjet related to Mensen Harm Wubbena? I am descended from that line. Unfortunately I have NO leads on this notorious book. I would love your help and will post any information I find on this site. You are welcome to mail me at the address listed above.

P S I don know of a Uve Knut Wubbena who lived in 1689 Schleswig Holstein area and was awarded a Coat of Arms by the Prussian royal house if you are interested........
